Does anyone have or know about the quality of the gaskets from Pepboys? I am rebuilding a B18a1. For the "rebuild kit" w/ rings and bearings they want $269 and I can pick it up the same day. Some time in the near future I'd like to boost the motor and we do go the the 1/4 track 3-4 times a year. Thanx in advance.

 

Mr. Gasket? Not the worst by any means, it will work.
Fel Pro? Again... okay, i've never had a problem.

As for the important gaskets (like head gasket) i'd just get it from honda/acura.

unless you're gonna be screwing with compression alot and the like... then aftermarket ones may work better.

But.... really gotta be more specific, pepboys has lots of brands.

As for rings, i'd say they're all pretty much the same... no biggie to me, personally i don't like the chromoly ones... that's just personal preference though. Bearings, me, i'd get them from honda again... but that's probably no biggie. Plus.... how do they know which size of bearings you need????

They gave me no Brand I just asked they guy at the parts counter, he got on the computer and then called someone and gave me the price. he wasn't too helpful. As soon as you ask for honda/acura parts they look at you like "one of you guys!"

bearing size:

honda bearings, and their associated crankshaft aren't necessarily perfect... even from the factory. To accomodate the difference, there are like 4 different specs for bearings. Each spec being associated with a color.... like blue for tight, green for next, yellow for looser.... &lt;&lt;&lt;---- just an example, you get the idea those aren't actual specs.

So.... how can they know how many 'yellow' and how many 'blue' bearings ya need if they haven't looked/asked?

unless the b18 or whuteva' is different from honda engines i've seen (possible i suppose).

if ya search on like 'bearings' or 'overhaul' or 'rebuild' or the like you'll dig up that sorta info. it's also in all the manuals i've seen, chilton's, hayne's, factory... all of them. under the rebuild section.
