Default Question about model years of DOHC ZC motor...

OK, so I am looking to get a DOHC ZC motor to swap into my CRX, and I thought I have researched everything about these damn things, but now when I go to find a supplier, I am finding conflicting information. Here is what I have found:

http://www.hmotorsonline.com says that the DOHC 1.6L ZC is '88-'92

http://www.nippon-motors.com separates out the DOHC ZC with a "first gen" from '88-'91 and a "2nd gen" from '92 and up. Here is an email from someone at nippon motors:

"There are various types of ZC engines from 85-2000 +++, We have only teh 2nd Gen type for 92-up Civics, nothing 91 down"

Now I am kinda confused here and want to make sure I get the right engine. I definitely do not want the "brown top" motor, but I think that's single cam anyway, so that should be out of the question. I thought there was only one DOHC, black valve cover ZC (excluding the integra motor which looks exactly like the ZC but has different mounts). Anyway, if someone could set me straight here I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I have an EF3 facelift SI which is a 1990 and it has a blacktop DOHC ZC injected in it. I have mates with 1988 pre facelift EF3's with blacktop DOHC ZC injected's in them. So yes the blacktop DOHC injected ZC was definitely in the EF's from 1988-91

I have also seen an 1993 EG5 civic SI with DOHC ZC injected blacktop but this is in NZ I'm not sure if its the same as the US. A couple of years ago I was offered a brown top injected DOHC ZC out of a 1986 civic so brown tops were definitely available.

Hope this is of a little help

You need an OBD0 DOHC ZC which was available from 1988-1991 in the ef and ee body civics. There is also an OBD1 ZC which you can use if you want to convert your car to OBD1 electronics.

this is what you need - although it should say 88-91, not 88-92

OK cool. This is basically what a friend of mine said as well. Thanks!

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I'm going to order through hmotorsonline due to their great street credit and prices.
