91 CRX Si with the 5 speed stock 1.6...
Honestly, it's all up to you. Some would say to save your $$, and go get a B-series motor. While others may want to be different and build-up the SOHC 1.6L. I'm for the B16 or some other B-series motor.
i am in to DOHC now but before all i was all about the SOHC...it makes you feel good to bust a DOHC *** with your SOHC...because you have usually have less money involved and are still faster...if you have the money a LS is a good swap but if mopney is kinda low then build up your SOHC..you can make a SOHC pretty damn quick!
Well, if you are into autocross. You might want to think about keeping it stock. To start out, you will be more competitive in a stock class. This would be G-Stock. Then once you feel like you are ready for the next level, you can add an intake, headers, stand alone, etc.. This would put you in C-Street Prepared. Then if you decide to swap motors, this would then put you in Street Modified-2. You could actually be pretty competitive in this class mostly because it is fairly new and there aren't that many people in it.
good luck,

get rid of that rubber boot thats connected to your air box and it will sound like a intake and give it some what of a feel
and then if your concerned about your muffler sound and like to hear your motor more then a crapy exhaust buy a thermal !! they have one of the most quite and profromance for your money!! esp. if you have vtec i did this when i first got my crx then i blew my motor so i swaped it out and got a b16a .. its well worth it !! except the vibration
