Is a propane tank safe for compressed air?
And by tank i mean 50+ gallons
From what i read here : http://wolfstone.halloweenhost....html\
At a temperature of 70° F, propane's vapor pressure is 124 PSI.
At a temperature of 162° F, propane's vapor pressure is 390 PSI.
Propane tanks are equipped with pressure relief valves that vent excess pressure. If the tank gets too hot, the tank will fart instead of explode. :-)
Normal propane cylinders, such as those used with portable grills have pressure relief valves set to 375 PSI. PRV settings for ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) tanks are 250 PSI. DOT engine fuel cylinders use PRV settings of 312.5 PSI.
During manufacture of propane cylinders for engine fuel storage, each propane cylinder must be exposed to two times its service pressure, and one out of every 500 cylinders is exposed to four times its pressure, or about 960 PSI
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
So if this info is true than it would be fine to use as a spare air tank or as extra tank volume when im really cranking the air gun ,air grinder or wire wheel.
What do you think?

i think you answered your own question. i was also considering this but how do you tap into and out of the spare tank from your main tank, i havent looked to deep into this but would definately like to do this cuz i only have a 26 gal compressor and would like the extra compasity but still have the portabillity of the smaller compressor.
In my shop I got a 7.5hp compressor with a 80 gallon tank hooked up to another 80 gallon tank. It works great I get over 35+ cfm. a tank is a tank is a tank aslong as its rated for the pressure your working at
