Got a 96 gsr bone stock motor at 118,000 miles driven by a women all its life. Talked to a few people but just want a couple more opinions on boosting this car as a daily driver and if that would be possible to maintain it.

I heard boosting 8 pounds on stock internals is okay to do as long as you aren't romping on it all the time and some say that's not good at all and a bit too harsh for stock internals. Whats the best setup to boost my gsr and be able to maintain it the longest as a daily?

t3/t4 turbo boosting 6-8 pounds?

 

definently do it, you should have no problems, just don't skimp on the fuel management and you should be more than safe.

 

definitely do it... advice: dont be TO crazy wen driving.. you can still smash but just be aware of your temp gauges and boost controller .. wat setup are u looking to go with?

 

I boosted my B7 @ 180,000 miles

 

my lil Y8 is boosted....i run head to head with b16s all day long.....running stock injectors on 5 lbs, idles fine....next step is injectors and fuel management....


i dont know if this will help....but i would/am go ahead and get some arp head studs and a new maybe thicker headgasket, spray it with copper adhesive while your at it....save you some of the worry

 

really you're only head to head with B16's? What size turbo are you running? If you do your ARP's you should do a HG at the same time. Also, stock D compression is fine for 5psi if that's all your gonna run, so i don't think you'll want/need a thicker HG. And yeah man as long as you get your Gs-R tuned properly with good timing and A/F then you'll be good to go. I heard from a couple people that the gs-r can handle about 300-310whp on stock internals.

 

Yeah I just found out of some of same information from a co-worker who boosted 10psi on his stock gsr and it ran as long as he had the car. From what Im gathering its PERFECTLY fine as long as....like anything else....its tuned properly and not just impatiently slapped together. Can't wait to make this a turbo gsr daily driver...excitement just thinkin about it! w00t

 

You'll have fun man, i have a z6@10psi with210whp, and it's fun as hell.

 

Also, its gonna be a good idea to upgrade motor mounts and axles as well right? 180hp to 250-270 is gonna be a huge jump, any suggestions?

 

I'm only doing axles when i buy slicks..but then i'm buying traction bars hasport motor mounts and a quaife LSD

yea its like pushing a fat kid while he's running, if his legs cant take, he's gonna tip over like a bad game of jenga

 

Just get a GOOD tune and you should be ok

 

Thanx for the replys guys. From everything ive gathered I should be okay on 8 pounds of boost after I get the thing tuned to a science. Just met someone at my work who had a turbo gsr boosting 10 pounds on stock internals and the thing ran beautifully and for a long time too. Just gonna be patient...save...buy parts...then find someone to help tune the beast like a ****!

 

exactly, patience is gonna help you in the long run
