Default Highway Crackling

Pretty much since I have gotten my car almost 8 months ago, I notice at highway speeds (and even somtimes at lesser speeds) that I hear a periodic cracking/popping/clicking type of noise coming from the back of my 1996 CX hatchback (full interior). My mechanic put it on a lift and looked over the whole outside of the car and said all the bushings and ball joints and everything looks fine, so he thinks it is something in the interior.

Any ideas on what this could be?
I searched and all I found was that it could be one of the rear seatbelts.
Any input wouild be appreciated, thanks.

True, I will look around and see that they are all in place properly.

Can anyone think of anything else from personal experience or word of mouth?
