Default horrible gas mileage

98 civic dx. Horrible mileage. Back in the ricer days I put an adjustable fuel pressure regulator on. Its running at 50psi exactly. If I replace it with the stock regulator, think that will help??

At $3/gallon I cant afford to keep blowing through gas like this.

Well less fuel pressure should yeild less gas, so that is one option. Also, check you air filter, fuel filter and for possible dirty injectors.

This gets complicated so hang on....

intake/header/exhaust. O2 simulator. Car surges and bucks slightly when gas is held steady. No cel but the sim might be keeping that from happening.

Stock fuel pressure, get a real o2 sensor.

I might be getting 100mpg, I might be getting 10. The fuel gauge is all over the place. I know to expect this on hard turns but even while driving on the hwy it goes from 1/2 to 1/4 to 1/2 to 1/8 and back to 1/2.

******* mother of Christ. I've been trying to reply for the last 15 minutes. Netowrk connection crashed and I threw my keyboard across the room causing my cpu case to jerk adn the coke on top to spill over causing my beagle to run and hide. I've cleaned it all up and restarting this ******* peice of **** computer and I think I'll be ok. I have a temper of Hell I've been told.

Anyway, what I was going to say you have no idea how much the same setup you have. I also have one sensor hanging because I dont have to holes. If you have a temper, we might be bros!

edit: hahaha, all that and you've logged off. :slits wrists:

werd, my gas guage does the same thing

it'll be like full, 3/4, then down to almost a half, then back up to inbetween 3/4 and full

It's hard to know when do I need to get a new guage cluster just for this?

One reason you're getting bad gas mileage is because you're running 50psi as opposed to the stock 40-42psi.

That O2 simulator makes the ECU is doing a good job of running the car by dumping too much fuel into the cylinders. I'll bet if you pulled your spark plugs they're probably black.

I'd put your stock fuel pressure regulator back on or turn your current one down to 40-42psi, as well as go out and buy a 5 dollar bung or a .39 nut that fits your O2 sensor and weld that ****** on there.

I agree with nota-eg. Go back to stock fuel pressure, get o2 bung and connect 02 sensor back, replace spark plugs, also check distributor cap, rotor, and also check timing.

What should the stock fuel pressure be for a d16y8?

I believe it's around 40-42 base pressure.

Yeah going back to stock regulator would help. Here is some more information to read over concerning your gas pump blues
