just out of curiosity? how much do race car drivers get paid?
i am not considering this or anything, but how much do people who get hired to drive in import drag racing get paid? what about someone big time like papadakis?
i'd say that most put more money into thier cars tahn they ever walk away with on 1099s at the end of the year.

No one really know for sure, not many if any have come out and truthly said what they get paid. Things to look at easystreet was looking for a female driver 2 years ago and they listed salary at 45k—however that’s also with working at the shop in the off season. NO ones getting rich that’s for sure, but a top self sponsor does pay good money for instance the Effantis trailer had 20k worth of Lucas oil wrap on it, you don’t wrap a trailer for 20k and only give the team 100k. Very few people get paid well to do what they love, the few that do are very lucky but still do what it takes to stay competitive- long hours-crazy schedules, and lots of glad handing and face time.
do the pros get paid to be in magazines and such?
like if my car was in some car magazine i suspect that i wouldnt get anything, but i would imagine that all of the pros are sought after by the different magazines and so they must go with the highest bidder, or am i wrong and they dont get paid, but rather they see it as a means of self promotion.

Every deal is different - the payment can be just for the "driver"....it could be the "driver / travel"......or even"driver / travel / building and upkeep" of the race car.
So say 100,000.oo for a team seems like a big number - take out 40 for the driver to live. Then 40 for the car IF IT WAS ALREADY A RUNNING CAR. And only have 20 left for travel ? 1 trip for me, 2 guys plus truck and trailor to FL last year was 6500.00 not taking into count the loss of profit because of the shop closed.
Most of the teams do this for the love of the sport, and you are right most seem to have other jobs.
BUT........one guy "driver" got paid big for his name not really getting down the track but doing what the sponsor wanted. It all comes down to what the sponsor wants - that is something that we the public will never know. Some companies/sponsors just want tv time others want magazine features. Some want a number at the track / others just want to see their product at the event running or not.
At the end of it - you do what the sponsor wants. But I can tell you that I have never heard of a magazine paying for any feature-

For some of the guys here that do it this professionally. what is your day job to be able to travel like you do. I would love a career racing along with a career with my degree but I just don't see what kind of job would allow the freedom to race
