I've had two tear one different cars, usually in the fold. How much has sprayed?

Ask them if they saw any spray while the were working around there.

 

how many miles are on them? they go out about ever 70-120k

First off let me say that CV boots have a tendency to tear or rip over time especially under hard driving conditions. I have never seen a boot with just a little hole in it before but it is possible. It is just hard to say whether someone did it or it just happened. I dont know why someone would just put a little hole in a cv boot because it would still take a while to wreck anything. Anyway it is fairly cheap to replace the boot so dont make to big of a deal about it.

Well every crack has to start somewhere, so...I would say its normal. If somebody wanted to sabotage your car, they could have done worse. Nobody would have done that.

 

damn mines the same expect i havent really inspected it yet. yesterday after a long trip i found this splatter of grease that looks like the cv boot grease on the outside of the rim but how did it get there is my question. i would think it'd get on the inside but i'll check later today. hope there cheap.

 

is it a hole or a gash? usually the boot breaks and gashes because the material gets old. i have had a corrupt shop in the past stab my cv boot so they could say it was bad. good thing now i just do it myself..

 

yes iut will rip, and get worse very quickly. You need to repair it asap, it might seem like its only greese, but what happens is all that greese that was in the cv joint now on your wheels means more heat on the joint.

As less grease covers cv joint the hotter it gets, and down goes your cv joint. Then you have a whole new very expensive problem.

replace it asap, end of story

 

if the boot is not dry rotted or cracked in that area i would point a finger, and being 30k miles old it shouldnt be, but who knows. you cant blame people w/out proof. if its small enough you can clean the boot good, use a lighter to melt the edges and stick it back together. not recomended but it works fine for a little while.

 

The pinhole is manmade. A far as the grease inside your wheel, I would make sure that you don't a tear inside one of the folds.

 

From your description, it sounds real shady to me. Usually the rubber gets old, fatigues and cracks or rips. If the rubber is looking good and there is a nice little pin hole there, I'd be suspicious. You can't prove it though and I probably wouldn't even try. Also, the CV boot is only cheap if you do it yourself, otherwise about $80 a side for the outside.
