Default Best mod for the money?

I'm looking to make my car a little faster. Ok I'd like a lot faster but doubt it will happen. Right now it's a stock motor from the 96 EX with a K&N Cold Air Intake, Invidia Cat-back exhaust, fresh NGK Honda plugs, New Napa dist. cap and rotor, and Taylor 8.2mm plug wires. Its ok and fun once it hits vtec but kind of slow low down. Although the recent tune up really seemed to help. What would get me the biggest gains for the least amount of money? I'm wondering whats next as it seems like I already have the cheap stuff.

one of the most overlooked parts is the throttle rotor, TAS has one that fits over the stock rotor that increases throttle response, and acceleration by repositioning the cable...25 bucks..

I've got good Toyo tires although they are starting to get worn they will be replaced soon anyway.

I don't want headers as the aftermarket ones don't seem to flow any better than the EX header does anyway.

I have seriously thought about a Nitrous kit but have a fear of blowing the engine. How big of a shot can I safely run on here?

probably the next best thing to n2o would be some kind of ecu, i would recommend either apexi vafc2 or the jet ecu reprogram. The good thing about the vafc is that you can tune it your self and your car has about an hour of down time, gains are around 6-7 whp not much gain for torque, but what ever mods you do in the future you can re-tune. the jet ecu gets much better gains 9+whp but you cant do any major mods without having to get your ecu re-programed. jet ecu is as much as $310 the apexi vafc is as much as $350 without install. hope this helps

make yourself a custom short throw. costs only like 3-4 dollars, takes about an hour if you have everything you need.

umm, but I think suspension and tires are a good investment.

OMG, tell me your kidding. He is no where needing any type of fuel management. He doesnt have enough mods that he is leaning out the engine and needs more fuel. If anything, he has enough mods that added just enough air to give him a slightly leaner afr than stock. You will NOT gain anywhere near 5whp with just a vafc, atleast not with those mods.

for the price of a ******* vafc he can get a chipped p28 or p06(its not hard to make it work with vtec). Even a simple basemap would be tons better than a ******* 300 chip.

o, to the thread starter, its vtec, not vtech.

Underdrive pulleys, get a better ignition coil, v-tech controler, bigger t/b.
Just close your eyes, picture your motor and let your immagination run wild.

Suspension is something I don't really want as my car already scrapes the ground on lots of roads I drive on I don't wnat it lowered any more than stock. I have had someone local reccomend a V-tec controller but not really sure if I Would see many gains if any from it.

Just like you said "till it hits V-tech". Why not make the V-tech hit earlier?

this made a believer out of me and i was skeptical about doing it because i didn't know much about jet but I've had my ecu since yesterday and i can definitely feel th difference. from the apexi vafc i have in my car i managed to squeeze out 4.7 whp with just an intake and exhaust. with the jet ecu reprogram which can be found as low as $220 you could easily see 10whp as did the guy in the thread above

mattf22b1, do you have an auto, or manual?

I'm going to take AFAccord's success one step further... JET ECU with V-AFC tuning.

I called JET personally, and they said that their settings wouldn't be reset.

my cars manual, i have the vafc2 just because when i get a new cam and valve train i can still tune my ecu, that's the only drawback from jets ecu. I don't believe there is any way of resetting the ecu, is there?

You're right. That is their only downfall.

When I talked to AFAccord, he said that if you talk to JET, they'll probably offer to reprogram your ECU again, but for a smaller fee.

And that if you aren't happy, they'll set your settings back to stock for no charge.

NO i am not kidding. the ecu reprogram will get you about 10ish horse power and its been proven. the whole point in the program is that the honda ecu is economical and gives you enough power to cruise around town, the re-program gives you more fuel a more aggressive vtec at a lower increments, and with the combustion process gives a much more aggressive spark.
And to your other comment i managed to get almost 5whp with the vafc with only i/e, so it is possible.

I've seen gains of 12whp (LDY KLLA on Everything-Honda) with VAFC tuning on just I/H/E mods.

So there is hope.

Ah you have an F22B1? LOL, you lost. I was gonna say, the Delta 272 camshaft is definitely good for about 15-20hp. Get I/H/E and tune it with Crome, and no joke you might make close to (stock) H22 power for like $900...

From there you can get 11:1 pistons and an H23 intake manifold...ahhh if only I had the money...
