Default 195 > 230hp

Hey guys,

I was wondering how i could get up to about 230hp crank.

Right now i have an AEM CAI, so im assuming i gained a good 4-5hp extra which may set me close to 200hp.. I was wondering if I added a exhaust/headers what my gains would be. Im lookn for the cheapest and most effective way.. dont want to blow that much money.

Im assuming by 230hp would be around 184whp with 20% drivetrain loss.. or am i wrong?

New at this, want to learn much and make my R faster

Assuming that you want to stay N/A, Bolt-ons wont get you to 230hp. You will need to open up the head for some mild cams/gears. A hondata with proper tune and enough bolt-ons should yeild close to that.

Just turbo if lazy!

Ok....let me correct these illiterate f00ks that can't read that you're asking about 230 CRANK HP

I was able to achieve 190whp with no internal work and oem itr computer!

'00 USDM ITR
Toda Spec B cams
Toda Cam Gears
Toda Valvetrain
SMSP ITR 4-2-1 header
CarSound 2.5" cat
SMSP 2.5" catback
Comptech Icebox w/OEM rubber arm
Apexi VAFC
Timing 18 deg.
OEM 240cc injectors

With a stand-alone, bigger injectors, raised redline, and more tuning I could have achieved quite a bit more.

George Knighton and Austin were able to replicate these sort of numbers with OEM cams. Do an archive search for more info on their set-ups.

Set your budget, do your research, and buy smart!

And there's a decent amount of coin on that list. I'm in no way suggesting it can't be done, but it's not going to be cheap.

Unless he enlists your aid, since you can sniff out deals like no other

I can't help it people overpay for stuff.

Here is the cheap route. Probably won't get your 190whp but you will be rocking.

Intake: AEM CAI (free)
* Sell me your OEM air intake system $50

Header: Rage-Hytech copy - $650 KTeller
S2K Donut - $25 Honda
*will need to extend O2 sensors and shave/remove tranny-block brace
*OEM header is worthless - $15 recoup

Cat: 2.5" CarSound - $60 Ebay
Weld flanges/O2 bung - $60 local muffler shop
*Sell OEM Cat - $50

SMSP/KTeller 2.5" catback - $450
*Sell OEM catback for $200

Spend - $1245
Recoup - $315
Total spent ~ $950
Buy used and you could save $200-350

P28 ECU: chipped Crome - $175
Jumper Harness - $135
Dyno/Tuning - $300

Remove PS pump - loop rack - $50 parts/own labor
Remove AC belt - free

50hp wet shot = cheapest way!

Rstor - You got some decent whp nos! My friend who has CTR pitstons, Jun3 cams, crower valvetrain, JDM header, Hondata s200, MSD, upgraded fuel pump etc. only has 194 whp.

Here's my old B motor dyno:

This was with a very cheap S100 Hondata. OEM cams but cam gears for tuning better. SMSP header and complete 2.5" cat back.

After this dyno, we put on a Mugen air box and retuned and it got another 5 HP or so.

The car was a real delight on the street, having a lot of torque everywhere.

Mild porting and polishing helps.

Don't get too wild with compression. You want to be able to run pump fuel and you want to be able to lean it out to get power across a wide RPM range.

LOL, i figured it had something to do with a volvo lineup but i wasn't to sure.. somebody slap him! hahahaha.

George, that is exactly what i am looking for. How much did the cam gears, header, and cat back cost you? I really like something basic and simple and not getting to complex with a bunch of mods.

Hows the K20A? Iv heard they are cranking 230+ at the wheels with basic bolt ons and cams, yikes.

I think that you can get the mild steel, coated version of the header that I had for just a few hundred dollars. In fact, James Evans might still have it. You can visit http://www.jeimportperformance.com and get his phone number and ring them up. I don't think they got rid of it yet. They might even have my whole Hondata S100 still there, too.

Wouldn't hurt to ring them. It's probably cheaper than you'd find it elsewhere.

The cam gears were cheap. Mine were Skunk2, and they were cheap and didn't ever slip.

The user "DonF" ported and polished my head. He is in FL and has a very good reputation.

SMS Products posts here as user "SMSP" and you can contact him about what the 2.5" cat back costs, now. He can do just about anything in any price range, depending on what you want and how long you want it to last.

Also, look up Mike Teller "kteller8" and let him know what you're doing. He has a line of very cheap do-it-yourself 2.5" exhausts.

Mine is 220 HP with a very cheap no-name, restrictive header and a K Pro. No cams, to keep it Honda Challenge legal...just in case.

turbo is the way if you need hp.. 230whp at the wheels can be quite reliable - no need for cams/gears or anything internal.. just keep some money aside when its time to rebuild

Well I made 191 at the wheels with just bolt-ons and Power Fc. Even if you want to just make 190 at the wheels you will end-up spending a little money..Here's my setup for success:

AEM CAI (bought from Matt Jensen)
Hytech Header (bought from Matt Jensen)
2.5 Dyefab B-Pipe (Paid andrew for his hytech exhuast, got Jensens...hehe)
JDM Mugen Twinloop (part of Jensens exhaust)
Apex'i Power FC ( Bought used on HT)

I spent around just over 2000 for all those parts....

191 whp on a Dynapack.(please don't start a this dyno that dyno bitchfest in this thread )

coming soon, cams, valvetrain, and more powwa...woot..
