my motor was hot tanked but not the tranny. so since they didnt match at all i went to wal mart and bought a can of dupli-color high heat engine paint in the "alluminum" color. came out real well all i did was clean the surfaces and spray it. works well no chipping or anything

Hot-tanking is when the machine shop puts your parts in a big cleaner. Like a big pressure/stream cleaner.

Here's what mine looks like after months of driving around in rain/snow/sleet/etc...

It was hot-tanked at the machine shop, then painted. My transmission was also painted with the same paint.

I wouldnt recommend painting it... have done so before and after a while of a bit of oil, coolant, etc getting on the paint it starts looking like ***. hot tank it like others mentioned and get it looking new again or have it powdercoated,,, just my 2 cents

as long as engine fluids dont sit on there for prolonged periods of time it should be fine. i had a bad oil leak on the first start up of my car, i fixed the leak and wiped it down and its fine no chipping or bubbling

To tell you the truth, I don't even remember. I just had the machine shop paint the block/head, then asked for an extra can of the same stuff to paint the trans.

i painted my block/head/tranny about a year ago and it still looks brand new. first of all you have to get everything as clean as possible. i used a couple cans of gunk engine degreaser, some simple green, a small stiff brush for getting off the bigger deposits and a good old power washer.
after you get ALL the oil and grease off what your going to be painting, dry everything off really well with some compressed air and get all the water out of the cracks and crevises. now start taping up what you dont want to get paint on. some things are easier to just remove than to tape up. you can use some heavy duty aluminum foil on the wires and other things to cover them up quickly.

i used some 1200 degree aluminum color paint and then dusted some silver over it to give it a little bling

i can get some more pics for you, no polishing just painted it and it came out looking polished. it kinda dulled alittle from those pics which looks better IMO. i didnt have much time to get the tranny hot tanked, as soon as my tranny parts came in i built it and threw it into the car the next day but it was pretty clean allready just didnt match that good, but i am very happy with the final product
