Default What can i use to hold the valve keeps in place?

Im about to install my new springs and retainers and i was wondering what people use to get/keep the retainers in place? I was thinking some type of thick grease or something but i want something that will be safe when it mixes with oil.

suggestions?

is the head on or off the car???

if its off, bolt it to a woodedn workbench and have a towel underneath

if its on the motor, use about 3 foot of nylon rope in the cylinder and bring the piston slowly up to TDC to keep pressure on the valve

assembly lube, a light coat of oil, or some bearing grease.
