My car starts then dies halfway up to idle.....Main Relay???
I have an 88 ZC CRX and the motor was swapped last summer. The car has been running beautiful and then all of a sudden the other day when I start my car it dies or cuts out at about 1000 RPM on its way up to high idle. It's getting fuel and the intake is not obstructed. I am almost 100% sure its something electrical or I have a bad sensor somewhere. If it is the main relay then where is it located?? Does anyone have any ideas? Im running the 89 teg ECU by the way. I need to get my car running ASAP and I have limited funds.
to see if its the relay, smack the relat with a screwdriver when it starts to die. if that keeps it from dying then your relay is bad.
could ber your ignitor. small square thing on the inside of you dizzy w/four wires connected to it. I have owned two crx's HF & SI and this part has gone out on both with the syptoms you descibe. $100 part from the dealer
If the tach drops to zero before the motor actually stops spinning.... check your ignition switch out.
--- wish someone had told me that, just spent 300 bucks on a new dizzy... didn't fix it... 60 bucks on a switch fixed it. Mine, when bad, had to barely hold the key from returning from start (basically play with the key)... but not with starter engaged, then it would run.
