Default Air Dam question

What are the two little air dams for, in front of each front tire? I'm sure they have a purpose, but being so small, how effective are they?

Also, when you put on an OEM front lip do these have to be removed? The deal is I am missing one of them but plan on getting a complete front lip soon.

They're supposed to deflect air from the wheel wells at speed. I've taken mine off since they scraped in the past when the car was riding low.

you could try experimenting with them on and off? The engineers put them there for a reason though, and they've stuck through all model years so far

I think I would rather have them on. I saw somewhere about them deflecting water on wet roads so the tire gets better grip.

Does anybody have one for sale then? Passenger side.

Deflecting water on wet roads? You'd have to be going pretty fast for that to happen. I didn't notice any difference with them on or off.
