Purchased Koni... but there's a problem.
I bought a set of Koni Adjustables for a ITR off the board from someone here a few days ago. I tried to do as much research as I could on them, getting pics and part numbers and what not. I got pics and part numbers, but didn't have time to check the #s online due to exams and what not. The pics looked like what he said they were one being the Neuspeed Koni (fronts) which I didn't know Koni made for the ITR and he said he didn't know what model the rears were but they were for a ITR. I bought them via paypal and they come in the other day. Upon inspection I notice something weird about the rears... they don't adjust with the **** at the top. At this point I'm confused and get kinda worried. I ask the seller if anything was missing and he said he'd check, but the rears you have to adjust by pressing and twisting as said in the confusing picture instructions given by Koni. Finally today I check the part numbers and do some reseaching at school and find out the rears are for a 88 CRX/Civic and the fronts aren't ITR specific but are for an Integra. The fronts I guess are not so much a problem but the rears are unacceptable. At this point I think like anyone else I informed the seller of my findings and asked for a refund/return. He then tells me to talk to someone off the board about being able it being possible to use the CRX rears on my ITR
. So when you say something like that... that means you DID know that what model the rears were for! To wrap it up he says he'll help me resell them... but that's about all and I'm stuck with possibly compatable new shocks and $350 poorer
.
Now that I'm doing ranting... are the CRX rears shocks compatable? I don't see how, they prolly fit but prolly aren't valved for the heavier ITR. The fronts aren't really a problem cause I think they'll be ok but now I just got 2 fronts and unusable rears that I gotta sell. Main reason I left the scene was b/c of the rash of shady deals I kept running into and I thought I approached this one with as much caution as possible and I start where I left off
. Thanks for listening

With regards to your rear shocks...you may have a bigger problem with them bolting up to your rear ITR control arms.
Do the bottom of the rear shocks reseamble the bottom shock in the pic?
Do the bottom of the rear shocks reseamble the bottom shock in the pic?
Can't say I didn't tell you so...
Dude, who's the seller? Try again to work something out with them, if at that point they still won't budge, call them out. Are they local? Maybe someone on here is in their area. See if someone can go talk to them in person. Anyone can be a ***** on the interweb.
I think the compatability issue is a moot point. If someone wants to argue it long enough, that person can say that shocks off an 18 wheeler are compatable.
I feel the real issue is that the CRX is far lighter than an Integra Type-R so the dampening/spring rates are not going to be properly suited if installed on the Type-R.
Light a fire under this guy and get your money back. Contact paypal and tell them that the item received was not the item promised and they will freeze his account and do some other things to help you.
Live and learn. Next time you wont be so hasty in your purchase

I don't want to throw him under the bus just yet but if you want to I'm pretty sure you can find out who if you really want to know. (hint) Type R for-sale board) I'll wait a few days and see how it pans out. I'm positive he'll read this so I'm just waiting for the "Why did you do that!" PM. I was hasty because I needed the shocks quick because my fronts are blown. Next time when I'm in a rush I guess I'll stick to buying retail

Yea they do but when they came I noticed that the shocks also looked shorter than the fronts or maybe I was just delusional.

What are the part numbers on your Konis?
The ITR rear IS the same as the 88 crx, and it is not adjustable at the top, like the fronts. Call Koni if you have a problem, they are very helpful.
Apparently though, they have made multiple versions for the ITR.
Some report having 3 perches on the fronts, others have 2 (like mine).
I think the rear WAS a CRX rear body (re-valved?), but now there is a "new" rear one with multiple perches. I'm running Konis with stock springs and no problems.
(Except the front is a little lower than I'd like...)

You are calling BS on me??
Sorry, but when I bought mine, the part number was 8040-1078, and it IS shared between the ITR and CRX, and its not adjustable, and it IS a Koni yellow.
I specifically said they have a newer model for the rear that IS adjustable, so thanks for the pic of that.

Yep, for the longest time: 88 CRX=ITR. (And if I didnt see the Koala Yummies picture, I would of said there was no such thing as ITR specific rear shocks; When did they come out with ITR rear shock?)

Hey guys, before anybody jumps to conclusions about shady sellers, I gotta say that I'm the guy who sold them to him and I've had nothing but smooth transactions in the past.
I'm not going to treat the people reading this thread as a jury or anything like that, but I will say that I provided full disclosure of what I was selling and have the saved emails to back it up. There are also other people who inquired about them on the board who I told the same story and I'm sure they could chime in if they want. The fact is, these Koni's WILL fit an ITR and they are damper adjustable (although the rears aren't externally, I specified this). I even told him to PM "CRX Lee"(Koni Employee) so that he could confirm this fact for himself.
The buyer (ProjektR) said at the end of his email that was asking for a refund that he no longer intended on using a Koni Yellow setup and was changing his mind and would rather get an OmniPower kit.
All I could say is that I did my best. I described the shocks, sent pictures and part numbers and always kept in contact with the seller, and even gave him the emails of the other people who were interested in them after he told me he was going to sell them. What else am I supposed to do.

I think you handled the situation fine.
The ITR ONLY (externally adjustables) have been around for about 2 years now. Until then though... the crx/itr were combined and were internally adjustable. The sale was completely legit, they'll fit and work fine. Its just an older model.
And Koala... you need to know your facts before you tell people to expletive off. If you knew them.. you'd know those older models were sold for both 88crx lca and itr lca applications.... until recently when the external model was released. If you don't believe me, go ask Lee...

I said IF he told him they were for the ITR and they werent then "f off".
HOWEVER, they ARE for the ITR (thus my entire statement was uncessary), they're just not externally adjustable. Its in context and removed from it you can misinterpret it very easily. I know the shocks are cross compatable, reading his first post however it appeared like the seller misinformed him (which we now know he didnt) which is why I said what I did. Its just the fact that if I ordered something for an ITR, and it was sent with different part #s, contrary to the now available ITR specific part #s then its easy to get confused and dissapointed. Considering the fact that the ITR specific part has been available for more than 2 years now I'd expect the wording to be very careful, preferrebly making mention of that. I didnt know it was a 'bandwagon hop' to expect the seller to make mention of these things and leave information out. My apologies, anyone who looks at a new Koni brochure today sees one set of part #s for the ITR, and I'm usually in favor of telling the buyer all this crap so that misunderstandings dont happen. Guess I'm bandwagon hopping on protecting the seller and statement of all the facts, and I expect a bandwagon of replies to try and flame my opinion on this matter, which I wont care because its mine and many people can appriciate where I stand.

Koala Yummies, no offense taken, your point makes sense. I gave the part numbers, sent pics, and descbribed how the rears weren't externally adjustable. That being said, your point doesn't apply to this situation, but I totally agree with it.
When I purchased my Yellows in '03, the fronts were universal integra, and the rear's were '88crx. However, I did have mine revalved and made to externally adjustable.
Spec'ed and revalved Yellows are IMHO the best shock any car that sees a combination of street and track can use. They have the best low speed dampening and the valving is super strong and lasts a long time

Well since he revealed himself read this and tell me what you think...
(2:13 AM 4/7/2006) ProjektR: hey it's me Trung. Did you say all 4 shocks were the Neuspeed ones or just 2? Just checking. they should be arriving tomorrow thanks! Also just curious why didn't you wanna use them?
(2:20 AM 4/7/2006) tommymoose: The front two are the Nuespeed versions while the rears I dont know. Yep, they should be arriving tomorow, so just lemme know when you get them. I decided not to use them for a couple different reasons. One being, I basically ran out of spending money here at school and wanted to have some more to go snowboard, concerts etc. Also, I decided I'm going to build my head before I do suspension.
(10:10 AM 4/10/2006) ProjektR: We may have a problem with the Konis... the rears say adjustable but I don't see the notch on top of the valve for adjustment. Can you check to see if everything was sent?
(10:49 AM 4/10/2006) tommymoose: Yeah, I'm going home this weekend so I'll check to make sure, but the rears do not come with a notch or adjustment tool. If you check out the directions for them, it describes how you adjust them. It involves compressing the rod and turning it If I remember correctly. Let me know if the directions weren't included though and I'll find out for sure.
(8:25 AM 4/12/2006) ProjektR: hey I just checked on the Koni website and the rears are for a 1988 CRX/Civic. Any way I could just send all this back to you and get my money back?
(8:27 AM 4/12/2006) ProjektR: the fronts are correct but not really for a ITR but are usable I guess. I changed my mind anyways and wanna go with Omni coilovers.
(11:56 AM 4/12/2006) tommymoose: Hey, I'm not sure how I could have made it clearer about the parts that I was selling you. I sent you pictures and part numbers and even explained that the rears weren't externally adjustable once installed on the car. I went through this trouble because I wanted the seller to know what they were getting because selling stuff is a PITA (shipping when I'm not home, paypal fees etc.) PM user "CRX Lee" on here; He works for Koni and will tell you that both the fronts and backs work for ITR's perfectly. Sorry I'm not very willing to just undo the deal, I'm very busy with finals at school and don't have the time to make a swap back for a fair deal. If you want to go with the OMNI's however, I could help you resell these as I had 2 other people interested in buying them.
(1:31 PM 4/12/2006) ProjektR: Well I too am going thru finals and this is the last thing I want to worry about also. You told me they were for specifically for a type r... not compatable with a type r and I purchased on the assumption of so. I guess it was my fault for not looking up the part numbers before paying because if I knew that they weren't specific I wouldn't have bought them. I guess just help me resell these if you can, but I don't want someone else to buy them from me w/o fully knowing they're not type r specific like me.
Now remember at the start he still saying he don't know what the rears are... never telling me they are for a CRX or that the rears were internally adjustable UNTIL they arrived where he talks about the instructions. I too have the emails. I'm pretty sure none of you would have bought these if he said the rears were internally adjustable and for a CRX. I think I'm just gonna pack these up and send it right on back and contact Paypal for a refund.
