whats up...I have a question about a sound in my car, when i start from a stop (engine cold or hot) i hear a vibration/ chatter sound from 1000-2000 rpms primarily in 1st gear while driving then it goes away after around 2000rpms. it is a 2000 civic lx 65000 miles i think it might be my heat shield but when i open the hood and open the throttle and hold it around 1000-2000 there is no sound but i guess its because the vehicle is not moving

if anyone has had a problem like this or any info on it that would be great thanks....

 

My 95 ex had the upper heat shield on the cat come loose. It would rattle at about 3k rpm. I pulled it out from under the car and relized the bolt holes had rusted through. Took off upper & lower heat shields, no more rattle no problems since

 

i have the same problem...i think i'm gonna try tightening the heat shield bolts

 

There going to rust out any way just yank the bitch off

 

yeah it might be a heat shield. get under the car and start moving things around and see if they move. talking from experience check everything before making a purchase. i bought a new cat and installed and i didnt even need one.

 

Well you said the noise went away when you opened the hood, so could it be the hood latch needing some oil? Just a thought.

 

Those are all good ideas im def going to put my car on a lift and shake it down and see if i find any loose parts/bolts. Ill post later on tonight with the results thanks guys
