Default B18 Oil Pump

Hey I was wondering if the oil pump in the b series engines are in anyway electronic.... like if the ecu can tell the pump to stop working or if its like the water pump where its always on no matter what.... or like the AC pump where it is turned on.

reason i ask is cause the main journal bearings in my brothers b20 shattered and the only reason i can think of is because maybe the oil pump wasnt working but looking at the engine that case used to have it died of the same reason..... kinda fishy... so it let me to question if integras have electronically controlled oil pumps....

No..Its always spins while the engine is running..Cant just turn off like an a/c compressor..

Did your brother overrev the engine? If so it probably killed/shatterd the oil pump from the vibration..

oil pressure will go up with rpms until about 3500rpm where it levels out. I guess if the pump went bad for whatever reason it could have starved the motor for oil and caused the damage

its a terrible situation.... the engine makes this terrible sound like bearings that are in place but not held in right..... like slight vibrating grinding....

but right now im trying to figure out why the distributor isnt grounding itself right... cause its not giving off a spark and i know all the ignition parts work... but im gona pull out all the wiring from the car and make sure its alright cause this car used to be a show car with a bunch of electronic stuff so i know the wires have been messed with a lot...
