Default turbo on stock internals?

hey guys, what's a normal psi for running on stock internals? something that will be completely safe, but will get over 225 to the wheels. thanks. (also with basic bolt-ons like intake header exahust high flow cat)

you cannt use bolt ons with turbo. most people would say that 7-8 psi is good for stock internals, but higher psi has been done.

i would say max 8 psi on gsr's and ls max 11-12 psi.. i know of a guy with stock internals that ran 16 psi on stock internals with a bad *** tune.. but please kids dont like try this at home

7-8 with a Tune will get you to that, but no tuning would be pretty bad

But if you have a Really good tune, you can easily go around 10lbs depending on the size of the turbo,
Maybe throw in a blockgaurd too.

225 on a stock B18a/b/c block can be achieved safely. It basically comes down to the tune, so make sure you get a good tune.

damn good numbers... all of them ^ say its some down to the tune and blockguarding.. well a blockguard is like a "blockguard" that keeps your piston from walkingt that causes blown head gaskets... you have take the head out ad put in the block not real hard.. blockguards are about 100 buck and very much worth the money..!

What motor are we talking here? I made 250 on 10psi on my ls. That's pretty safe. I'm running 20psi on my stock motor daily driven....330/270.

b18c1... im planning on replacing the internals over next winter. the turbo set up is a summer project and obviously don't wanna blow my motor. the blockgaurd sounds like a good idea, thanks for the info

I wouldn't recommend a block gaurd....they cause cooling problems in the block.

Listen to this one.^ Focus more on you power goals, and not you boost level. Due to the differing amount of power that turbos can make at a given boost level, this question is hard to answer. Provided that your motor is healthy, 225 wheel horsepower shouldn't be a problem for stock internals with a proper engine tune. Good luck to you.

this is good info guy im basically looking to do the same thing, but i was wondering what turbo setup would be the best for this type of power gain, goal. any ideas?

i doubt it, block guard fits between yoru cylander walls and the block... i want to see an installed pic of block guard though, im wondering about cooling

block gaurds are junk and they do mess with ur cooling passeges in your engine. I turbo'd my 99gsr on stock internals and am running good numbers. Ive done a bunch of **** but i would highly recommend the HKS stopper headgasket. Its reusable and brings down compression to 8.5.1 on a gsr which means higher boost.

Don't forget, lower compression isn't always better. Take 2 engines with same internals, minus headgasket (for your obvious compression lowering), and turbo both, it will take less PSI for the higher compression engine to make the same amount of horsepower, then the lower CR engine. Most engines dont blow cause of PSI, they blow from too much horsepower on the stock internals and or a bad tune.

Since you already have your power goals in mind, you need to figure out what kind of turbo you want. Smaller turbo = less lag time, but their power falls short on the higher end of the RPM range, while larger turbos = more lag time, and have more power at the higher RPM's. Corky Bell writes a book on turbocharging cars. A very insightful book, and can be purchased/ordered online or a large retail bookstore.

i think you shoud read the link you posted...hint: read towards the end.

then youll see the cooling problems that comes with filling up the top and hottest par tof the sleeve with a non-heat conducting material...

Metal block guard dont to crap, oh yeah they do...distort bores, shift around, look pretty when putting in..

when tuning the engine well, 300-330 whp are possible
