Default Question about shift linkage for 5th gen!

I just got a 5th gen accord for $230 from a friend. The problem= car won't go in gear, like the cable is loose. Now I have never worked on an accord and the shift linkage area sure looks different from civics/integras.

Has anyone ever had this problem? and where does the shift cable runs to and how does it conect? I havent looked yet, but I'm trying to prepare myself.

I've found this layout and is this part of what im looking for? Someone help an accord n00b. Thanks

I don't think the shift cables are going to be the source of your problem but...

The cable connects to the tranny by slipping onto a shaft and then being held in place by a cotter pin.

Here is a couple diagrams that show how the linkage connects to both the transmission and shift lever.

The part where the linkage connects to the tranny is located below the intake tube. You may need to remove the intake tube to gain enough access to work around that area.

Are you sure that there isn't an internal problem with the tranny? Just a thought.

Thanks for the info/diagram touringaccord. I don't think it's the transmission but I haven't checked yet. I pulled off the center armrest/ console and the cable seems extremely loose like it came apart (maybe). So I'll check that out and see what's going on.

yep, np

sounds good, hope it's not your transmission and just a loose cable or something easy, just figured I would throw that out there since you said you got the car for only $230.
