Bad news for those with LOJACK...
Well I've been hearing rumors for awhile now. LOJACK has now been figured out by the hard core thieves!
I was hoping the day wouldn't come, and I thought I could feel somewhat safe at night with my car in the garage, but I guess we will never be safe if they want it bad enough.
A little over a month ago, a PY R was stolen from Tacoma (WA) between 6 and 7 in the evening from outside someones apartment (before you comment on the don't park outside an apartment, just imagine he was just visiting a friend between 6 and 7!). The car had LOJACK and is yet to be found...
In the last few years here in WA, there are stories of garages getting broken into and dogs beaten to get to an R. A young kid at the night races got his stolen at gunpoint in front of hundreds of "racers" in a Jack in the Box drive through. And now this.
Type R's get stolen ALOT, I know that. But it's sad to think that my car is never safe no matter how many things I do to try and prevent it. I don't want to mention how LOJACK has been figured out because I'm sure some of you have heard about it, and if you haven't... I'm not going to put it in writing online.
Just needed to vent and give a heads up to any other LOJACK equipped R's out there.
Oh yeah and this is just days after I saw the new Import Tuner which covers the top stolen cars and cities. If you haven't seen it yet, the Acura integra of each year (1994, 1998, 2001... you get it) accounts for 8 of the top ten stolen cars. And the Seattle area is #10 in the country, sorry to Cali. you guys have like 8 of the other cities!!!

Sadly, I'd have to say the same.

I remember hearing about that guy getting his R jacked at gunpoint. I believe it was py. I remember hearing something on the news about a new security system that was supposed to make lojack look like a joke. I guess now it's true since thieves have figured it out.

lol i've been saying it for years...but still nobody listens....
the only true way you find out how easy lojack is to disable is looking at the device itsself. if your smart and demand the installers tell you where the lojack device is or forget the entire purchase, you will quickly find out they work on commission, more installs more money in their pockets. so they will show you where the device is.
once looking at it you will also know it was not placed in the perfect most secure area of your car. why? remember lojack wants you to and they tell you to, do the yearly check up... you really think the installer is going to waste half their day disassembling the car to reach the lojack device in that most secure area...i think not. so dont be suprised if the entire install only took 30 minutes.
listen to lojacks ad,, its the size of a deck of cards, which is true... how many wires? think about it... to make something work on a car you need what? a positive and a negative... good.. now you know how many wires.
and since its a device that can be traced eletronically (generally speaking),,, well then it must have an antenna. now were learning.
and what do you think will happen is you remove it from the car?....... your correct,, it goes dead after so many hours(theres a small battery inside) hence why the device can only be installed on a running car to charge the inner battery(they will ask you if the car runs or not if its an older car)
lojack does it work? yes, if the device is placed in an area where it is almost impossible to reach or your entire dash has to be removed, and no installer will do that for you.
just like alarms, it all depends on the installation of the device. and remember no "device" will keep your car entirely safe.
if this offends anyone please pm me and ill delete my post...

Did you guys ever see the lo jack back up battery i did a write up on?
Also if you install the module with a huck gun " stainless rivet" the ant is in the box not out so as long as the box can be kept suppled with power and not be removed it will transmit. Any thing with gps can be blocked by strong magnetic fields/ thick concrete/ or steel.. Me knowing some one may kill for my car puts me on edge and i have a lic to carry and do.. If i am leery the gun is out and i have "0" reservations about using it.. [QUOTE=cxSHOE]lol i've been saying it for years...but still nobody listens....
I was paraniod with the Mad Speed guys here, three R's in one location...
I had the police sitting in my drive way that night. Its nice to live in a small town near a large one.

well, interesting replies. I thought this might bring up some conversation but it almost seems some of you are frustrated. I understand our cars are the most "wanted" by thieves. Believe me, I know some of them personally, and I wonder if they only want to know me to get to my caR.
I feel very lucky to have had my car for two and a half years now and no "attempts" by anyone to get it. I do want to back the LOJACK EARLY WARNING system if anyone has that, I've tested mine a few times and they call around a half hour. Regular LOJACK is useless if you ask me, we all can strip a car in a night if we need to. But the key here is the thief has to know you have LOJACK. Sadly, and this is what I made the topic for, if they do know you have it.... your **** is gone

i can't believe the theft desirability for ITR's in the states is so bad that people have guns pulled on them!
what sale market do the thieves have? there are only so many stolen car's you can sell in the domestic market, i'm guessing they go abroad?
sad sad thing

I knew someone would try and throw that line back at me as soon as I typed it! It's too bad that you say that about me just because I have been in the import scene for eight years now and know a ton of people in this industry of "tuners", some good and some bad. Look up the name Mike Senato, he was in Super Street years ago with his CRX full race car. He was a good friend of mine for a short period of time and I went with him to IAS in Cali. back in 1999 to introduce the car in the Flex-a-Lite booth. I shouldn't have to explain myself in such detail but that proves two things... one, I have been doing this a long time and know ALOT of people.... two, when Mike lost his sponsorship (and almost everything else for that matter) I chose to find new friends. So please don't judge me because I have crossed paths with people that aren't squeeky clean.
Wow, I guess you hit a nerve... sorry, back to LOJACK discussion....

yea Lojack is a constant failure and waste of money... the only thing you ever MIGHT get back is your shell. O well, I guess we gotta keep C4 wired by remote to our R's so at least the ******* stealing it can be blown to bits.

actually, fact that you associate with thieves yet do nothing about it, implies what he said above about you.

I can see how you guys may think that way but all I can say is. You don't know me, I don't deal in any stolen parts and my car is 100% legit with hard work, sweat, tears, and money. You may use the old saying "guilty by association"... I use the old saying "keep your friends close and your enemies closer"

In your first post about it you said that you "know" (present tense) thieves personally (which usually means you have frequent contact). If you associate with these people either steal cars with them or go to the bar and have a beer with them then you are just as bad. Not one person on this board will side with you.
In your second post it sounded like you knew(past tense) a thief and stopped associating with that individual, although it kind of sounds like you stopped associating with him when he "when Mike lost his sponsorship (and almost everything else for that matter)".

lowjack is not getting figured out.. its pretty SIMPLE. get a PHONE scrambler(yes illegal but u can still get then from europe),, go steal the car and but that in it,, then strip the car until u find lowjack.... dosent take a genious to figure that out
best way to prevent theift is fuel cut offs.. if they are properly set up the only way someone can steal ur car is with a towing..
The best place ive ever seen lowjack put : IS IN YOUR SEAT INSELF, SO EVEN IF THE CAR IS STRIPPED AND THE SEATS ARE TAKEN OUT THE BACK UP BATTERY WILL BE GOOD FOR A FEW EXTRA DAYS,,, SO AS SOON AS THEY TURN OFF THE SCRAMBLER... LOWJACK WILL BE FOUND!
