i have a 1989 honda accord lx. it turns over fine but when you take your foot off the gas pedle it dies. what could be wrong??

 

fuel injected or carb'd?

 

lx is carburated....
have you checked the base idle setting?? ,, if ok..

also chk the pcv valve,, located behind the valve cover ,, get some pliers, squeeze the hose and see if that helps,,

........chk to make sure you are getting power at idle solenoid with key on.. located at back of carburator, you might have to remove the air cleaner assembly to get to it,,
If you get power , remove the 8mm screw,remove the solenoid CAREFUL not to lose the little o-ring ,, get some carb cleaner and spray some in there.. if you have compressd air blow in there as well.. put all together and retry it..make sure not to leave any vacc hoses disconnected.

try these things see if any helps..
