Default $400 Used T3/T4 Kit - Worth It?

I know that sounds like another stupid noob question, but I still need your opinions. Basically, I'm trying to part together for my turbo project. I actually have a set of DSM 450cc injectors already.

My friend has a d series kit that has a t3/t4. It should include everything except piping and wastegate. Obviously there will still be a lot of things I will need to get too (i.e. guages, electronics, engine management, etc), but I figured at the very least paying for a mildly used turbo, manifold and SM intercooler would be worth the $400 for a start.

My dilemma is simply that I know the t3/t4 is a little big for my goals (~9lbs and hopefully 220whp), but the price for the kit is right. I don't really know for sure how good of condition the turbo is in, but I can pretty much guarantee that it isn't in bad shape. Should I even bother buying the kit? Or should I buy the kit, then sell or trade the turbo for something smaller?

So, is anyone here using a t3/t4 on a ZC? If so, how do you like it? I hear they take a bit longer to spool, but make good numbers. I was originally thinking about just using a 14b or t3.

Any input would be greatly appreciated...

Get the kit, $400 is a steal if it's in all satisfactory condition, and the t3/t4 leaves room for more power later when you become greedy/power hungry!

Go with the t3/t4 for traction control. Just boost a bit lower and you'll be fine . I'm going for an IHI myself...with the spool starting around 2k rpm's can you say burn out in every gear? haha.

Should make for some fun city driving though .

Thanks guys. I think I'm definitely gonna go for it...

I actually found out that the guy selling it never even used the turbo and it's a fresh re-build, so that's a good thing.

get some specs on the turbo. there are some different things that you need to consider before you buy it. what trim is it, who made it, is it fake(shitty copy of a good turbo), who rebuilt it(was it balenced) and why. etc. if you can find out these things we can help you out a little more.

as of now though it seems like a good deal, plus you should have lots of room for expansion in the future when 220whp doesn't get it up anymore

Still don't know the exact specs, but I would say its about a 50 trim wheel. I don't know the guy who had it rebuilt, but evidently he had it shipped out to some company to do it. I went and checked it out... There is NO shaft play. And it was balanced (I asked).

Basically I'm just getting a manifold, sidemount IC, and practically brand spankin new t3/t4 turbo for $400. I keep hearing that these turbos are a good match for the ZC and I will have plenty of room to grow.
