86 Accord LX (Auto) Tranny Problem. Can anyone help?
Hi,
Just bought an '86 Accord LX with 120k on the engine. Starting to have problems with the transmission and wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to do.
First off shifting from Park to Drive or Reverse (it's an automatic), feels really sluggish, as if i'm fighting resistance. Then, i'll hear a clunking sound, as well when it shifts into gear (very loud, strong clunking sound). Most recently, when I put it in Drive or Reverse, I can't get it back into Park. Have to let the car roll forward a bit before it'll slip into Park.
Tranny fluid looks and smells fine -- no metal flakes, no burnt smell, etc. I'm hoping it's something simple, but no idea what to do next.
thanks in advance.

You're going to need to take it somewhere that can line pressures for you. The pressure readings will indicate where the problem lies. Saw more than a few 2nd/4th clutch packs with the center split apart on those year trans. Sorry, no quick easy answer for this one.
