Default new falken tires, anyone try them yet?

I have been contemplating putting the new falken rt615's on my s2000, but the falken website recommends going with 225/50-16 for front and rear? they have a new size coming out for the end of april that is a 215/45-16. what would happen if i ran the front and rear with the same size tire? how much would that change the characteristics of the car? should i wait till the new size comes out for the front? that will at least be closer to the correct stock size, right (205/55-16)?

side note, the reason i am asking about this tire is because i plan on autocrossing over this summer with this car, and since i just picked it up, i didn't want to put lots of money into modding it yet, until i get a feel for what this car can do. i used to run the azenis sports on my civic a couple years ago when i ran sts and that was a really good tire. any thoughts and input would be appreciated. thanks!

i saw those too. i should probably also add that i do not plan on changing tires, at least not this year. i want to use the same tires for daily driving as i do autocross for this year, so i can save up some more money and get more suspension and related things next year. do you drive the hankook's around, or just use them for autocross?

I wouldn't recommend driving around daily on either of those tires, because

1) Low treadwear
2) They both suck in the wet.

If you're not going out there to be too competitive, just get some daily-drive-friendly tires. Even if you do auto-x on those, you'll be "forced" to be smoother, rather than having stickier tires "cover up" your mistakes.

I just got BF Goodrigh g-Force T/A KD's put on the rear of my S. I got the dry traction only 'cause it doesn't play in the rain.

Wait till the right size is available. Running a similar/same contact patch on the front and rear will upset the balance of the car making it VERY tail happy and difficult to drive, especially in an auto-x.

Don't get me wrong, you can get away with it but I wouldn't recommend it, you'll constantly be countersteering and working throttle to keep it on course ~ fun experience

if you want to do that, i would recommend yoko es100's.......i autocross these tires in my hatch in DSP class.......

they are a little harder compound, but still offer good dry/wet performance with added tread life

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by hatchblack &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">so i can save up some more money and get more suspension and related things next year.</TD></TR></TABLE>

now, if you go changing suspension components it will put you in another class....not A stock

i drive them daily..... not everyday, because my s2k is not my daily driver...... as contradictory as that sounds.......the s2k is my fair weather car.......it gets driven 3-4 times a week........

as far as wet weather traction goes, they are no worse than the azenis would be, or a worn out set of so2's......

also, if i get caught in the rain, i don't drive like an idiot..........

i know that if i change things around i will not be in stock class any more (i've been doing this for 8 years, and my father has been doing it for almost 40 ). but this will be the first rear wheel drive that i have raced and driven around in, so a lot of things are going to be different. that's why i want to make sure i get to know the car before i go and do anything to it. so i was just wondering if anyone had tried the new falkens, and had any other suggestions. so far i have a bunch of tires to look at and choose from. thanks!

I highly doubt you will find anyone who has tried the falkens on an oem wheel set up as they are not made in the proper sizes for our car. The only possibility is to run a narrower tire in the rear. You are giving up performance doing this, it wouldn't make sense to.

I have the re's on my 05 stock rims and i like them better than the so3's on my Volks.

why not just go with the OEM so2's or so3's?

Alot of people are talking about the new Falkens, so who knows they might be good.

I ran the 205/55/16 and 245/50/16 Hankook RS2's on my oem wheels for a couple months and they're great tires for the money. They offer similar grip to the OEM S02's but they have soft sidewalls and offer poor steering response/feedback. You really have to be cautious when driving with these things. These tires are great in the rain with some decent tread left. Just don't be stupid and vtec when its pouring outside, simple as that.

If you can source OEM AP2 rims, i'd recommend 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 Falken Azenis.

i dont know if im the only one who noticed this...but the actual tire size is much bigger than what they write on the tire..

kinda bugged me.

if i wanted 215/60/R15s on my civic, i would have bought them...

IMHO all around ES100s &gt; Azenis 615

I run Falken Azenis st115 on my Focus daily, they are just fine. Too bad I can't run the Goodyear Eagle F1's that are sitting in my basement.

I also run the hankooks. I love these tires. They are awesome. Excellent dry traction, comparable to the S02s, and wet traction is great as long as the tires arnt bald. Bald Hankooks in the rain isnt just scary, its dangerous. I couldnt go over 50mph on the freeway without feeling like i was going to spin. However with tread, you're good to go.

And for the price, you just cant beat them. Under $100 a tire. A set of four cost me $376 (or something close) shipped to my door.

I got 10,000 miles out of the rear tires, and still on my orginal fronts. I estimate ill get around 20k for the fronts, and 10k for the back. Thats under $600 in tires every 20k miles. On a performance car, thats cheap.

My buddy just got new rear tires for his C6, he paid $400 per tire for the back. Ouch!

OEM S2000 tires cost just as much.

BTW...do NOT run 225/50-16s at the rear except for the OEM S02s. The OEM rears are not a true 225...they are larger. I've done the measurements of the contact patch and a 245/45-16 is about as close as you can come for non-OEMs...and even some of those are a bit more narrow.

I wouldn't recommend the same size front to rear either. The S2k already likes to oversteer. Going with the same size all around just makes the oversteer worse.

I just put Hankook Ventus Sport K104 on the rear. Very good traction and in my opinion, just as good as the Protenzas.
