So ive heard alot about ppl using a obd1 p28 or obd1 p72. What are the benefits of either, and what year/models can i find each? thanks!

 

Well, the P28 is a SOHC, where the P72 is the proper ECU. If you are running the GSR with the secondaries -you need the P72.

Most of the time, people are finding the P28s cheaper, than just chip it to run a P72 altered program; so most of the time, this is a better solution as you get a chip'd ECU for normally just a little above what you would have paid for a stock P72.

 

alright. so basically a chipped p28 with a p72 map can do everything a p72 can? ..the secondaries thing confuses me...

Also, what cars/years (obviously the gsr, but i don know years) that the p28 and p72 are available out of. my local junkyards dont know what they have, so i can probably get an ecu pretty cheap, i just got to know what they come out of.

 

P72's are getting really expensive and rare. They only came in 94/95 integra GSR's.

Only two differences between P72 and P28 is the knock sensor and the IAB. If these aren't important to you then just run a P28 ECU - I think the knock sensor is useless, and IAB doesn't do a hell of a lot either. Obviously, you'll need to chip the P28 and put a map on to get it to run a P72 map.
