90 CRX SI - buying today - need opinions
okay i have this guy selling me a white 90 crx si with a CAI and some loud exhaust. the paint looks like it was done at home (it's a bit chalky but well sprayed) theres a couple patches on the body where it looks like somebody patched something on top of a scratch and painted over it. the hydraulics for the trunk is shot. the shifter's a bit loose but it drives very well. full strut bars. selling for 2500 cash and i've got cash on hand. the engine bay looks un-touched except for the battery relocation. the sunroof doesnt close but i'm pretty sure it's a switch problem. everything else looks nice and neat. should i make the purchase?
one thing that does concern me is that in 2000 it was reported with 163K mi and in 2001 it was reported with 116K mi. the valve cover for the motor is the metal type. what's going on??
ok the motor says d16a6 on it and has a serial number: 2317909. can i track down the number?

I wouldn't do it. You probably don't want to buy a car that has been f*cked with a whole bunch by someone who you dont know if they know their ****. And the mileage? Forget it.
I don't know how the market is where you live but around here you can get a perfect stock CRX for around that much. You'll probably enjoy a car that *you* did the mods to and you're not wondering what else they did when you go to pull the tranny and all the threads are missing from the bolts in your engine block.
Don't worry about tracking down all that crap just go find a cleaner car that you dont have doubts about.

good point, i later found out that the car had rear drums and no a/c and the vin told me it had a 1.5L engine AND it's a DX. good times
i do have another option, it's a 90 DX in excellent condition but missing a mirror and it's salvage due to somebody stealing the sound system. everything's been replaced to stock level and ... opinons?

how much they asking for the dx, it sounds a lot better, plus you can find a mirror for it just about anywhere, follow your gut instinct, if you have a feeling the car isnt worth the cash dont buy it
asking 2650 but i'm gunna try 2000. if the carfax checks out for no accidents, do i need to bring it to a mech anyway? i'm in a tiny bit of a hurry to get the car.
