I didn't think you could still buy new RT215. But, yes, they're great.

As the tread blocks wear down, they will get noisier and noisier, and you will have less and less traction in water. I'm sure you already know that they are for warm weather use only.

Don't listen to the gossip about their being dangerous in the wet. The trouble is that people try to drive through standing water with them, and it doesn't work.

At Summit Point, in falling rain, I am frequently able to get by much faster cars w/Azenis as my rain tyres.

Just use a little common sense and don't try to drive through three inches of standing water at 90 miles per hour!

They are awesome in the dry, and quite good in the wet.

I agree with everything George says, except for a clarification to this statement.

As he properly points out, there are a lot of factors that affect grip on wet pavement. Speed and tread depth are very important for ANY tire and should not be overlooked; you can't just drive 80 mph in the rain and expect to have a lot of grip. However, the old Azenis is worse than other street tires in the rain, at the same speed and tread depth. That doesn't mean you can't use them in the rain; it just means you have to pay even more attention than with other tires to speed and tread depth, and slow down as needed. So the real answer to the question of "how good are they in the wet?" is, do you mean how are they compared to other tires, or how are they in an absolute sense? They're not bad, but they're not as good as other tires (including their RT-615 successor).

The short answer to your question is, the Azenis RT-215 offers awesome grip on dry pavement, doesn't grip as well as other tires on wet pavement but factors like speed and tread depth are more important than that, and wears pretty rapidly. It's an excellent choice for those who want maximum dry grip in a street tire, including those who want to use the same tire on the street as at an autocross or on the track. Enjoy them!

It all has to do with expectation. People expect them to be the end all of invincible tires. Sadly there is no such thing. I see this with winter tires (tyres for Mr. Knighton), people seem to think that winter tires will allow them to drive really fast in the snow and on ice.....fat chance. I once had the chance to drive on solid black ice in my neighbourhood one night. It was a very interesting experience. I had some fairly decent winter tires and let me tell you; they did nothing. Idling in first gear was too fast. Every time I touched the brakes I would lock up and the car would drift to the side because of the crown of the road. Winter tires are better in this case but I still had to exercise extreme caution and restraint. Good tires don't make you invincible. They are better but they don't make you invincible. Over expectation of performance/safety can be a very dangerous thing. There was a fellow on here who started a thread about how "Azenis suck in the rain" Turns out he was doing 80 when there was a lot of water on the road.......no kidding they didn't stick like glue.

Whatever your choice just know that no matter how much you spend on rubber you still need to exercise a lot of caution on the road in any condition and to know that every thing has its limits, even better to know what those limits are.

Cheers
