noobie dx question
I've found a 90 crx dx to replace my 87 hf and besides becoming a good downhill car, what can i do to the stock motor to squeeze performance out of it? i've been reading up on swaps and although i was initially really eager to do a swap, it now seems really really complicated. options?
Swapping out your intake manifold to an MPFI unit will help quite abit. The DX motor is a lost cause for the most part, a swap is recommended. Any engine swap in a DX is going to take some wiring, but the DOHC ZC is by far the most straightforward swap. There are quite a few easy to follow guides about how to hook it all up.
Swapping a motor isn't as nasty as it sound as long as your somewhat familiar with a wrench. An understanding of what components do what is actually required due to the wealth of information available on the internet. I did two when I was 19 with what I know now (at the ripe old age of 20) to be a poor knowledge of engine operation.
If you have fun getting into projects, by all means, go for it. I promise you it's not as bad as it sounds.

well, i've just recently been introduced into how engines work but i've been a huge fan of crx's since i can remember.
if i could find a 90 si, should i keep the motor and go from there?
one other thing. i dont usually complain but isnt the ZC non-vtec?

The DOHC is non-VTEC, but costs 1/3-1/2 as much as a B series to install. The SOHC ZC has VTEC but I don't know as much about those.
Keeping the D16A6 out of an Si depends on your goals. If your just looking to add abit of pep without the major wrenching of a swap, sure. If your looking for more power, you would need to add a turbo or swap it out. If you like having your fun at 70+ mph, the D16A6 and even the ZC kind of fall off in the higher gears, so look into the other options.
