Default Question about 99-00 Civic and 96-98 Civic cupholder compatability

I was told by someone that the 99-00 cupholder would fit into my 97 Civic EX. When you look at the picture below the 99-00 cupholder is #40 and the 96-98 cupholder is #3. The tabs look similar, and I want the 99-00 to work in mine. Has anyone done this before? Im pretty sure ive seen them around, but I have searched around a bit this morning but cant find one. Any help please!!

they bolt right in. the lower part of the 96-98 cupholder is 2 pieces (1 piece the actual cupholders and lid, the 2nd piece is the DIN pocket and supporting frame - piece 1 screws into piece 2)

the 99-00 cupholder is a single piece (well the storage pocket has a snap off lid but the overall design is a single piece)

they screw into the same location. everything else works the same (upper console, center console, etc)

good luck.

parts #3, #6, and #10 go together to make the 96-98 one (cupholder & lid, support housing, DIN pocket. #40 is the 99-00 cupholder.

Ya it bolts right in... I can get you a brand new OEM 99-00 cupholder(#40) for $13, PM me if you need it.

REALLY? I loved the flip top cup hoders. Also i put my alpine radio int he lower tape din area. and used an FD RX7 pocket that jsut pops right into the upper din area. FD rx7 pokets have a hinged door. you push and it auto elevates.
