195/60/14 - every tire shop tells me something different
yeah i probably should have kept the gsr fat 5s because there are more tire options but anyway...
i'm looking for
1. performance/handling/sidewall flex
2. ride quality/quiet
3. treadwear
some folks say BF Goodrich Traction T/A, some folks say sumitomo htr4 or 200, some folks say fuzion HRi... i'm not sure which way to go. i want something sticky and don't mind if it doesn't last super long, after all, tires are cheaper than body damage, but i want enough sidewall stiffness that i can autoX it and generally mack on it on a daily basis without wearing the corners of the tires out before the rest of them. but i don't want to spend $70/tire either. i do work for a honda dealership, so all the tire shops in town give me deals. looking for some good reccomendations. thanks a lot guys!!!

that was my first thought. but i'm daily driving the car, and every once in a while i do long distances (250 miles each way). wouldn't those tires be a little loud/rough for that? plus, i'm thinking i might sell the car in the next 6 months or so, i'm afraid i'll wear them down too much in that time. don't get me wrong, i think it would be fun as hell to have azenis on my car for daily driving, i'm just worried they'll annoy me for the aforementioned reasons.
Some of the tires mentioned (like the otherwise-excellent Kumho Ecsta SPT and the overpriced g-Force Sport) don't come in 14" sizes.
I don't know why people are recommending all-season tires to you, like all the tires you mentioned. Correct me if I'm wrong, but... you don't plan on using these tires in snow, do you?
If not, there are really only two tires available in 195/60-14 if you care at all about performance and handling: (1) the Falken Azenis RT-615, which offers outstanding dry traction/handling, so-so wet traction and handling, and very short treadlife, for $64/tire at Vulcan, and (2) the Yokohama AVS ES100, which is a great tire for the money ($71/tire at the Tire Rack), offers excellent traction on dry roads and in rain, and lasts a fairly long time. Either of these choices will easily out-perform any of the other tires that people have mentioned here. The Azenis is the choice for performance, the ES100 for value (due to its longer treadlife).
EDIT: Corrected to add the Azenis...

If this is for your '95 Integra, 195/50-14 is MUCH too small. Even the 195/60-14 is 1 percent smaller in diameter than stock (which is about as much as I would want to go).

well the reason is that i want the lower gearing. this car has those weird 14" 5 spoke alloys that came stock on the del sol. you know the ones i mean? anyway, i figure with 195/50/14 my gearing would be about the same as 15" wheels with a gsr tranny. yeah it will look funny, but the damn thing has already faded to pink anyway, so fuckit!
If you want lower gearing, the proper way to do it is to get a final drive gear with a shorter ratio, not by using tires that are too small. The USM LS came with a 4.266 FD; available FD gears include 4.4 (ITR stock), 4.785 (JDM), and 4.9 (ATS).
well i might be able to get my gsr tranny back from the guy who bought my wrecked gsr, but my car has 175k on it and faded paint, i don't want to put money into it in that way, i'll never get it back. at least with tires, i can mention that it has new tires when i sell it. the $500 i spend having a gsr tranny installed are just plain gone.

And hope that potential buyers don't notice that it has teeny tiny tires on it?

Dude, it still qualifies as "red," it's not quite pink yet. Just make sure you sell it before it gets that far.
I agree with nsxtasy, you should get 195/60/14. Smaller would kinda get ridiculous. The Falkens in that size are available at Vulcantire.com for $64 each. They're actually really quiet and pretty comfortable when they're new; it's age that makes them hum.
nsxtasy, are you telling me that the AVS ES100 will outperform and outhandle the Azenis? I'm skeptical.

I found coloured wax that prevented my car from getting pink....

Cheap, effective, and relativly quick. Just doesn't last forever.

My bad. I had only checked the Tire Rack and forgot that the Azenis is available in that size. Earlier post now updated.

Also, you can get Hankook R-S2s (the tires I'm running) in 195/60/14. They're a step below the Falkens in performance, but I've been extremely happy with the treadwear. They do everything well, and I just love driving on them.
That size is hard to find at most online Hankook dealers, but email frisbyracetire.com and see if they can hook it up.
