Default Need Information on DSMs!

didnt know wat forum to put this in so i just put it here. if this is in the wrong forum, i apologize.

i'm considering buying a 98 eclipse gst but i have heard from friends and read here on ht that dsms have many problems. can anybody specify wat these problems are? my current options right now are the gst and an integra. normally i'd have chosen the integra but hondas are so plentiful nowadays. and i've always thought eclipses looked nice. TIA for any information.

also looking for a dsm guru who can give me their personal opinion on a certain eclipse. pm me please.

all information is very much appreciated.

i personaly dont own a dsm but a few of my frineds have...they all seem to be reliable as long as you maintain them just as you would maintain any other car...in my experiance ive had alot less problems with my integra then they have had with thier eclipse's/talons but one thing they always say to me is when buying a turbo dsm gst gsx w/e dont get the 7 bolt motor they have a tendancy to blow rods( my frirnd rich is on motor number 3 right now)..i belive the 7 bolt motors are in the"newer style" dsm's..hope it helps...but i would personaly get a honda(hence why im a member of honda-tech.com)

I know of a few DSM people in town and they are pretty much always dealing w/something broken. If you're used to working on honda's and want something that looks different, i wouldnt go with one unless you have some dsm friends who can help you learn the ins and outs of them.

I am a DSM owner/Mechanic... (im posting through my friend's HT sn). The 7bolt motor found in 2nd gen DSMs are the worst of the bunch. The newer cars I feel are the bettery body style and have more for suspension options I believe. I have worked on one 2nd gen Talon but the cars I deal with most are the 1st gen 90 & 91 Talon TSi. If you buy the GS-T source out a GSX or TSi motor from the 1st gen. It will for sure be stronger, more reliable, and come with oil squirters. (even the GS-T have these). the 2nd Gen pistons from turbo motors are better but the 1st gen block, crank, and rods are better. Hit up dsmtuners.com and dsmtalk.com. If you would like to find me on there my SN is HKSpoweredTSi

Hope this helps a little.
-Derek (again using my friends HT SN)
