recovering door panels after adding custom features??
ok, I've seen a few pics here and there on the net of people putting gauge pods in their doors and such but they always do it with fiberglass which I personally think looks like crap just because I hate painted interiors.
I want to do the gauge pod and then recover the door panel in vinyl.
What I'm wondering is can I use standard sheet vinyl once I find the correct grain or is there a special vinyl with foam backing that is used on car door panels and such??
I know it's cushy so there's foam behind it but does it come on the vinyl or do you buy the foam, lay the foam, and then lay the vinyl??
I want to put in the gauge pods, and then recover over them to make it look factory which I think will look pimptastic and yeah, I've done all kinds of work like this in the past just didnt dawn on me until the other day to get vinyl sheets lol.
depending on how my guinea pig door panels turn out I might do it to a spare dash I have as well.

For doing the interior you will have to add your own foam if you want the cushy feeling. The vinyl that you want is little different then regular vinyl. You need to go to a interior shop or sometimes you can find it at fabric shops, but it is very stretchy and not as thick as regular vinyl. This helps when you are raping the piece, because you can pull any wrinkles out. Also it helps to use a heat gun when you rap the panel because makes the material easier to form.
