Default rad. fan issue

Ok, I'm about to buy one of my father's company cars. It's a 95 LX automatic. It was having issues overheating. I checked it out and the radiator does have a very very slight crack. But, the thing that has me confused is the fan. The fan does not kick on until the car is turned off. Relay is good. Both fans cut on with the a/c. So, obviously it's not the motors/fuses/relay. Any other ideas? I searched but couldn't find anything relevant. I want to find the problem before I replace the radiator so another one isn't damaged.

First, the fan not running until you shut it off could be caused by the problem thats causing the overheating or it could be the cause itself. Does it run hot all the time or only when sitting still? If it runs hot all the time, you could have a stuck thermostat. Lack of flow would keep the fan switch from heating up and they would not come on. Make sure the air is bled out of the system as well. If it only gets hot while sitting still, you likely have a bad fan switch. Pull the connector at the thermostat housing and jumper it with a wire or paperclip. If the fan runs and the engine cools, replace the fan switch.

chk the coolant level . if it is very low the fans will not come on. as the cooling fan switch located on the top t-stat housing cannot detect air temperature ,, and if it low on coolant the switch will not be submerged in coolant , thus it will not make fans come on.......
also you need to replace the radiator, and as you say the very very small crack, keep in mind that while undere pressure with car running that crackls gets a bit wider and coolant leaks out ...
Anyho,, if you are low on coolant, fill it up, bleed it , start car and chk to see if fans will come on then ,,if not .. do as AMCKEE suggested jump the 2 wires at switch if fans come on you got a bad switch

yeah, I know the rad. needs replaced, I just picked up the new one today. Went ahead and got a new thermostat also since I'll have the system drained (hopefully they're as easy to change on accords as on civics). If it ends up being the fan switch, anybody know if it's interchangeable with the one on the civics? I know there's often a few sensors that will swap over but it's been a long time since I've had an accord. Thanks for the help and if you think of anything else, let me know. I'll hopefully be pulling the rad. out tonight and testing everything.
