Life after ITR
I think the greatest thing Honda ever did was bring out the DC2R and there is no other car that would compare or come close to it in its uniqueness. At this point I don't see them bringing anything that would even compare or come close to it. I'd like to have a new car, I was looking at either an STI or possibly a TSX but if I go with the TSX I might wait a year or two to see how Honda will revamp it.
Was wondering if any of you guys could make any other suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated
TIA

I wouldn't go that far. Nissan did a whole lot more "world rockin" with just the Skyline GTR.

Leave it to an ITR owner to make a statement like this.
The EVO is hands down superior to the ITR, in every way.
I could care less about little "tingly" feelings you guys get inside when you drive your R's, get real!

i'd agree with this statement, except in terms of production build quality

plus the MR Evo is probably the most un-reliable sports car you can possibly buy in this day and age... i hear horror stories non stop about how bad the clutches are on those things. i talked to a mechanic at a local Mitsu. dealership and he told me he replaced a cluch on an MR at 2881 miles... now to me that's just BULLSHIT no matter how hard you drive your car
I was going to suggest an S2000 but then I looked at your sig and apparently you already have one... not happy?
I just like S2K's because it would be great for those nice sunny summer days, cruising with the top down and then also to take to the track the next day.

Sounds like you believe alot of stories you just "hear".
Also reminds me of all those "stories" of the kids that blew clutches left and right and grenaded trannies in ITR's when they'd do 8K clutch drops at every stoplight to impress their girlfriends.
The more actual friends I talk to in person with EVO's, not in some online chatroom about these issues, the less I hear of truths to these myths if you aren't being a complete *** and just destined to destroy whatever car it may be regardless.
FYI you also hear similar stories about Sti's and even Mustangs if you go looking for them. Or any performance car for that matter. There's always gonna be some tard ready to destroy a car and there'll always be one car in a million that may have a defective part, heck look at F1 cars and see how often they implode.
I'm not defending one car over the other. I'm just mentioning that you kinda have to weigh where the information is coming from.

a co-worker of mine has a buddy who took his evo in for service at a local mitsu dealer and they told the guy to return his lightly modified evo BACK TO STOCK before they would touch it...wtf. even with that knowledge, i think i would still get an evo MR if i didnt have the R
just something about it...
just something about it...
I agree with 1GreyTeg. Most of these horror stories I hear are from people who simply can't drive or screwed up. In the s2000 community, we hear it all the time with out diff's blowing up. Do you know how our diff's blow up? With stupid high rpm clutch drops and no wheel spin. In most cases, we see a thread that says I went to the drag strip now hearing weird noises from the rear. Its done by launching incorrectly. Otherwise, they are tons and tons of avid trackers with thousands of track miles on their S with no diff problems.
The same concept can be applied to Evo, Sti, Mustang, and other sports cars. The whole issue with the clutch in Evo's, the ones wearing it out the fastest are the ones doing many clucth drops without knowing how to properly. The Evo and Sti are not cars you just drop at redline. At the same time you see tons of them being tracked and I rarely hear complaints from those. The complaints I do hear though, people are admitting to driver error. I also hear of the occasional breaking but then every production car has its defects.

just something about it...</TD></TR></TABLE>
Thats one dealership. My local dealership has done warranty work on my friend EVO. He was told that as long as its bolt on work, its fine. As soon as he does an ECU reflash/change, they won't cover his motor. They would still cover the other parts that are stock (suspension, electrical, body, etc..) I do hear that plenty of dealerships will not work on modified cars. You do realize this is the case for most dealerships, regardless of make.
I do live in an area where an angry customer wouldn't hesitate to contact a lawyer. They would gladly pay the lawyer a grand or two to get warranty work done, even if that work was only a couple hundred bucks.

I'm speaking from experience since I have had decent seat time in both the STI and MR. It's an opinion. Nowhere did I compaire the STI and EVO to an ITR. Don't put words in my mouth.

where did i say ONCE about hearing anything online or talking with anyone online about this, i could give a **** really... and this is pretty much the only forum i visit, this and one other forum that's local. i'm hearing this stuff from owners of Evos and people that actually work on the cars. the Evo/Clutch thing is really no secret, and i'm definatly not bashing the car, i actually love the STis and Evos.
i personally know a guy that i talk to every now and then that owns a 2006 Evo, think he got it late 2005 and put in the cars 3rd clutch just shy of 25,000... this guy is 48 years of age and definatly doesn't do high rev clutch dumps to impress anyone. for an unknown reason when they went to install the 2nd clutch there were chunks of carbon missing off the clutch and the 3rd he said was just starting to slip pretty bad and had it changed.

I've heard mixed responses on this too. I have buddies with no problems and buddies that are replacing things left and right. I know that they are all good drivers too.
From what I understand the parts are also a bit expensive.
On a different note, a friend of mine is selling her Audi A4 and wanted to keep all wheel drive characteristics but wanted something with a bit more power and that can be modified a bit. I recommended either the MR or the STI.
They are not bad cars at all. I wouldn't mind having an MR for a daily driver.

1st year EVO's were plagued with transfer case and clutch issues. 2004's were released late in the model year, because Mitsu upgraded the clutch and transfer case for '04 and beyond. That being said, an EVO's clutch, is still going to be the weak link in the drivetrain for the obvious reasons. I'm sure Mitsu would rather warranty clutches, than entire drivelines.
The EVO has proven to be a fairly reliable grocery hauler with scorching performance to match. A competent and dynamic car, if there ever was one in the price segment. The fact that many, many EVO's have landed in the hands of clueless fucktards (see dR4G 1AuNcH y0!) should not be a negative reflection on a great car.
The STI, with the exception of a propensity for detonation in the early cars, is tough as nails, they have a strong clutch, and AWD system. But are generally known as less mod friendly, and, softer suspended than a base EVO. The EVO MR has softer springs than a base EVO/RS, but has thicker sway bars.

i have had an 05 and now an 06 sti after the R and you are right no car will replace it period! but the STI is a great daily driver with tons of power and decent handling. the gas milage sucks compared to the R but the theft factor is lower so you cant go wrong and i dont regret the STI
funny thing is, although the Mitsubishi management suffers from questionable integrity in japan, the Evo does not suffer from the unreliable reputation as it does in America.
granted, the Evo clutch is not as robust as the STi's, but all these horror stories online are just a result of fucktards mistreating the car. reminds me of that douche that bagged the crap out of the Evo VIII (/w the IX front bumper) on the course driving through grass and dumping the clutch every chance he gets.
for me, knowing that Evos have always been the fastest cars on tsukuba puts a big smile on my face, and also serves as a a big F you to nay sayers

and these are just the high profile ones
p.s: i love the STi too, just not as much
