Default ?? shave head on 98 CBR 900

Anyone here know what is the max you can shave a head of a 98 CBR 900. I want to raise the compression ratio, to sqeek out some extra power.

Why not just getting a thinner head gasket? I know HRC makes em for the 600's to bump em up a point or two, and I would bet so on the 900rr as well. Would definately be cheaper and less permanent if you wanna change it back. I know two brothers can get HRC parts, and I am assuming the honda dealer should be able to get em for ya.

You'd be better off going with a set of high-compression pistons from JE or Erion Racing. There is very little margin for shaving the head or the cylinder block, and one screwup means expensive replacement parts. Pistons can be found here:

...Just to name a few...

Thanks for the info guys but the difference in price in shaving the head and replacing the pistons is about $600.00 I have done this before on other bikes, just never the CBR.

Check out what the squish is on your current head. Most CBR's of this age suffer from very dodgy build and you may find that you dont have much to play with. If you want cheap power then why not Nitrous it?
