Oil Burning -- PCV Valve?
pull out the pcv valve and shake it. If you can hear it rattling its probably ok. You may want to try blowing through it to see if its working as well.
or... You could just get a new one as it is a regular maintenance part and costs $4 at Autozone.
Odds are you 3 quarts in 3k miles is going to be something along the lines of bad valve stem seals/ worn valve guides, blown headgasket or your rings are toast and its time for a rebuild.
Does the car smoke when it first starts up? Does it smoke when accelerating? answer these questions then you'll get better answers.

It doesn't smoke when it starts up. There's very little smoke when I get on it (but I assumed this was normal when I'm up at 7k). I notice that the oil goes down between my oil changes when I don't beat on my car.
