Should I geet slick's?
well Ihave a b16a in a 89 crx... full exaust & cams. everything else is stock. Should I consider installing slicks while racing on the 1/4 mile or should I just get some good street tires ?

just preload and you wont have any problems...
i cut 1.7-1.8 60fts this weekend without any problems on stock dseries axles.

Yes if done wrong, the odds are great. But if handled in the right way (preloading, slipping the clutch a little not dumping)) they will be fine even for 1.6 60 ft. times

even large axles like my k20 type s can be broken even on drag radials trust me not preloading and not slipping is a bad thing at over a 100 bucks an axle for our team..but doing it once finally conviced my wife to learn to pre load lol...
the worry will be his diff pin, not the axles.
7800 rpm Z6 on 100 shot clutch dumps, never broke a stock axle.
The 20x8x14 MT's @ 12 psi will slip just enough (perfectly) and your off.
Upgrade to N2O or boost on the B16 and you'll need 22" or you'll run out of gear in the 1/4 mile.
