k20a drop into a Toyota MR Spyder
Hey guys,
My friend is in the process of swapping a JDM k20a from an Integra Type-R into his Toyota MR Spyder. It'll be a complete swap including the 6spd tranny and LSD.
Check out the buildup story here:

For mounts, custom axels, and some wiring? I doubt it. It's been done a few times before though, if you look for the Tokyo Auto Salon pictures from this year there was 2 K swapped MR-S's
And the K series responds alot better to mods than the 1zz
Oh yeah, i saw this car tearing up the track at AT2

fwdtamiya, you were at AT2? That was fun, wasn't it?
There are a bunch of pictures from AT2 on the site in the Gallery section.
Also, part 2 of the k20a Spyder buildup is now up at http://www.sdtuners.com
And yes, the K20a swap into a MR Spyder has been done in Japan already. However, no one in the US has done it yet. Once we complete the swap, we should be the only MR Spyder in the States with the K20a.
Like fwdtamiya said, the K20a responds much better to mods than the 1zz or 2zz Toyota motors. Honda made a great motor, and we intend to make full use of it :D

Yeah it was really fun. It was the first time i had seen any kind of racing close up, so when the water tower at the high speed turn was still open to standing next too, that was amazing to hear and watch the cars scream by me =D
Awesome pictures, I can't wait to see this car done, you guys have made alot of progress already

Oh wow, you must have been right next to us.
We were the first ones at the watertower, waiting to take pics as they raced by. We were hoping no one else would see us there, but soon everyone flocked there and they ended the fun by kicking us all out

The MR Spyder has the 138HP VVTi motor from the base Celica. So the increase is actually 82HP, not 30HP. But there is more to doing this swap than getting a 'mere' 82HP. Toyota motors are notoriously hard to make power with. Not only that, but the performance aftermarket is virtually nonexistant. So even if you stepped up to the 180HP Celica GT motor, this is about all you would get. On the other hand, we all know what K-series motors are capable of. As I always said, it is a dirty rotten shame that Lotus chose to ditch Honda in favor of Toyota for a motor for the Elise.
