check engine light

my buddy has a 97' civic coupe and he recently got a new exhaust and now the check engine light is on... and sometimes it goes away but then starts up again

has anyone encountered this before? what could it be?

o2 sensor maybe.

idk but i had the same problem but....it was the headers, after installing my dc-sports 4-1 headers the engine light came on and nwo it wont go away and my gas milage got worse! the ysaid its my o2sencor*
