SRS diagnostics
Hi folks,
I have a 1995 Accord EX wagon. In 2001, the SRS light went on, and the
local dealer's repair shop replaced the SRS controller -- a shockingly
pricey item.
Now, 5 years later, the SRS light is on again. I paid the dealer to
"scan" it, and I'm told it reports a diagnostic code 08-3. The dealer
wants to replace the controller again, now at an even more fabulously
high cost.
Oddly, after this testing procedure the SRS light is no longer on.
The dealer maintains the controller still needs to be replaced.
I've been looking online for an interpretation for the 08-3 diagnostic
code, but with no success so far. I have found a small amount of
discussion regarding how these controllers work, and in one place it
was stated that the controllers record conditions observed with
components that are external: seat belts, switches indicating whether
a passenger is present, etc. The dealer told me the SRS light could
go on if the battery voltage got low.
I am not feeling very confident that the proposed, expensive repair
will address the real problem, if there is a real problem. What if
the real problem is an intermittent condition outside of the controller?
Can anyone point me to online or print resources that would help me
decide whether to proceed with the repair?
Thanks.

you need to get the fault code. If they scanned it they should have written it down on the work order.............
Edit I can't read I see you posted it...let me see what I can find out..........

I believe the Helms manual list the Diagnostic Trouble Code 8-3 as Internal failure of the SRS unit. It list Unit Replacement for this code.
The SRS Indicator Light should be on.
