Does changing to a larger tire size effect the odometer, or only the speedometer?

Pretty sure it's just the speedometer... The VSS is still going to read the same signal, so RPMs would be the same. But the car is programmed to translate things based off of whatever particular size the car's stock tires are, so different sizes should affect the speedometer. Back me up anyone?

it affects both the speedometer and odometer......I had a weird problem of the speedometer jumping around at a standstill, and it would rack up my miles while i was sitting still...so yes, it'll affect odometer...

It depends on the tire size.

Exactly. Going plus 1, 2, 3, or whatever will not affect the speedo or the odometer as long as you keep the same overall diameter. Also going to a larger overall diameter will affect your acceleration.

Just tell me what your car came stock with and tell me what you are considering getting and I should be able to tell you how much it will affect it by and if there any better suggested sizes.

I had stock 13" steelies on my cx, forgot what tire size was on them, and went to 195/55/15. I was wondering about this because I'm trying to calculate my exact mpg on different trips.

According to The Tire Rack, your stock tire size is 165/70-13. This translates to an overall diameter of 22.09 inches.

In a 15" wheel, the closest tire size for your application would be 195/50-15, with an overall diameter of 22.68 inches.

Your current setup has an overall diameter of 23.44 inches. There will be a roughly 6% difference between indicated and actual speed/milage using these tires.

To put this into "odometer" terms for you, if your odometer says you traveled 1000 miles, you actually traveled approximately 1060 miles.
