Default old school cvcc timing miss backfire

Recently blew the head gasket on my 82 accord ek1 cvcc 1.8 (1751) motor. So i figured why not throw a cam in it and do some minot porting. Lower end is the Exact same. Carb is the Exact same semi stock keihen 3 barrel (minor port, vacuum secondaries spring lightened, all the emissions taken off.) Ehaust manifold is the same minus very lil port and polish work just to get the roughness and flash off along with the 1/8 of carbon off the walls. Intake is slightly ported. remember here nothing major on anything just a few percent. distributor is stock. head is lightly freshly rebuilt

At idle runs pretty good and smooth and rev makes it miss from 2k rpm all the way to 5 where i stop pops backfires gutless. spent 20 plus hours timing it with my chiltons the neighbors napa timing book (hes a mechanic) the shop down the streets book that rebuilt the head my step dad was a mechanic years ago and hes been helping me too. got a good even compression check 105 to 110 on 3 cranks
the spark plug pull while running tells us all plugs are firing even tried moving around the plugs to other firing orders all the valves werre adjusted then loosened then loosened again to make sure the werent tight oh it starts up in like 1/2 a rev to a rev gets worse as is warms up. when its cold it runs ok for about 2 minutes no misses then gets bad.

now for the fun stuff...

new reground cam from delta cams says its a 260 degree but i read the stock is a 260 degree and its supposed to be a stage 1 torque cam
all lifters are refinished or new. all top end gaskets are new distribuotor advance mechanism leaks vacuum slowly and barely moves when vacuums applied to it

cranks to t on pointer (manual tanny) left dash mark to arrow on head (up cutout up) distributor (lower raised mark on housing to drilled dimple mark on shaft instert slowly mathing slider up to bolt hole)
starts and runs just misses.

stock keinhen 3 barrel

figured out what it is #2 cylinder is sucking oil somehow causeing the plug to foul within minutes. fresh plug runs great 3 to 5 minutes later starts missing.

next step tear #2 valves apart reseal em and try again. i dont think its the rings cause how the rings gonna suck oil up into the cylinder then past the lil baffled thing??? gotta be the valve seal or the cvcc stem seal.

Before you go to far you need to really check your aux. valve holder for the #2 cyl. You may find the large O-ring around the outside is cut. Also, once you get the oil problem fixed....get the vacuum advance replaced on the distributor. I use to see that problem all the time, guys would set the timing with a timing light with a bad vac. control and end up with cracked piston ring lands after a few thousand miles.
*any chance that the pre-chamber valve rocker arm got caught out of place when the rocker assembly was installed and bent the valve stem slightly. This would cause the condition you're describing ....been there- done that once.

damn your good i think it might been tweaked when i installed the rocker assembly. it says 16 degrees timing without the vacuum hose on but once you put the vacuum hose on it would move it wouldn't it? do you know if anyone sells seals for the prechamber valves individually or am i gonna hafta buy the damn kit again? also is vacuum vacuum i got the vacuum advance on the same line as the brake booster coming from the smaller barrel would it make a difference if i moved it to the secondary or primary side of the carb? im primarily looking for horsepower not mileage. but if swapping the hose out could actually make a difference im all for track swaps.

edit... i would like to talk to you about ideas for the car or if you know any old tricks for these engines or how to acquire an el1 head and manifolds

Get a new vacuum advance unit ASAP and set the timing. Next get a Vac. diagram and connect all hoses to the correct port, etc. Get the basics right first and see how the proformance is......then start tweeking stuff to experiment. If the basics are wrong, you never get it straightened out completely. Also, remember that it's just a little old carb. model that ran forever(great car) but it isn't gonna ever come close to a fuel injected Honda for proformance. LOL, you can improve those year's cars with 5 spds by installing a stock camshaft from an automatic trans. car.
