Make sure the plug wires are in the right firing order. It should look like this:

To check if they are getting spark, unplug the wire where it meets the distributor cap. Hold the wire near the terminal and see it a spark jumps from the terminal to the wire when someone cranks it for you. If it does, your obviously getting spark. Check it in all four wires.
To check for fuel, crank it a few times, and take the plug wires off the valve cover. Then pull out the spark plugs and see if there is gas on them! They should smell like gas...

for the spark test.. you could just remove the plug wires and hook up a spark plug tester to the spark plug, crank the engine and if you see a spark, walla it sparks. but the way mentioned above is probably cheaper.
