An Si tranny will not make it harder to launch because the 1st gear is identical. You will get quicker acceleration but your revs on the highway will be higher. I would definately take an si tranny. It has identical gear ratios to the ITR.

essentially the only con concerning the si tranny is (as previously stated) high revs on the highway. if you can get them for the same price, i'd definitely go for the si tranny. how can you pass up the opportunity to have the same gearing as an ITR? it would be a huge mistake if you went with a gsr tranny.

doesn't the Si tranny come with an LSD?
is the Si tranny's flywheel lighter than the GSR flywheel?
i know the ITR flywheel is lighter by like 4 lbs.
can you put a GSR 5th gear into an Si tranny?

Si's do not come with LSD. ONly JDM stamped and thr R tranny has them. If you can tolerate the higher RPM's on the highway then go for it. Personally I drive 40 min on the highway everyday and it is freaking annoying as hell. I swapped in favor of a gsr.

i have an si tranny in my gsr its so much better than that long drawn out gsr gearing, it revs high on the highway but its worth it to me

you guys are awesome, thankd for the responses. heres the story, i got some new facts.
2000 si tranny shipped for 500. the only problem is that i need a tranny fast and i am deathly afraid fo shipping. i really do not want to take a risk since i do NOT have money to throw away. i know some of you guys can agree with me 110%.

then there is a 94 gsr tranny with phanton grip lsd for 600 and he is local! i dont know much about this lsd, but it IS an lsd. i know the higher rpms associated with the si tranny and thats what i was trying to decide about and now i have a chance to get the lsd. i already drive a sh!tload of miles per day, and the stock gsr tranny high rpms get on my nerves. i guess i could tolerate the higher rpms but i want an lsd.
what the hell to do?
another point that is on my mind is the years of the trannies. the gsr is a 94 but i have yet to find out the mileage, and the si is 2000. i know trannies are not that easily to kill even though i belw mine but that was an exception <- stupidity!
What do you guys think?!?
thanks again, you guys rock!

btw...can you replace the 5th gear in the si tranny?

Si tranny can accept the ITR final drive gear as far as I know... that would essentially give you an ITR tranny minus the LSD

And also keep in mind, with the SI tranny, you might be at around 4400 rpm if you cruise the highway at around 80-85 mph. This will put you in vtec and watch your mpg, let alone the buzzy noise.

phantom grip is JUNK.
I would get the SI tranny, but I would be getting it for performance of th ebetter gearing, you can drop in an ITR LSD at a later point in either tranny so thats no big deal really.
get the SI tranny now, then get an ITR LSD used later on. you can usually find them for $400-500 plus $50 for the pair of bearings you will need.

seems to be the good idea. i researched and found that phanton grip is a peice of ****. i am leaning toward the si tranny.

btw...a stock-fitting clutch for the gsr motor/tranny will work with the gsr motor/si tranny combo right? also what about the flywheel?
thanks again

Get the Si tranny. Personally, I would love being at 4400 RPM at 80 MPH. Or if you're that concerned about high RPMs, get an LS or GS-R 5th gear dropped in later.

Why would you pass up the chance to increase performance while replacing something? Especially at such a good price...

No you will not be in vtec. You have to be at full throttle for vtec to even engage.

This is new info to me. I remember one guy here at HT who had to change his final gear because he said he was in vtec at like 82 mph and his mpg really suffered.

Well thats about the gayest **** ive ever heard. Get the Si tranny and get a VTEC controller. I have an Si tranny with a quaife in my GSR and it rocks. Even with just that si tranny and i/h/e i could smoke bolt on GSRs. That tranny will really wake your GSR up, i say go for it!

what power gains am i looking at? then again maybe 1/4 mile time loss? anyone know about how much better the si tranny is?

alright, does anyone have any hard numbers on the SI tranny? like rpm/speed in fifth? ITR/SI people, what's your rpm at 60mph in 5th? on the GSR its 3k (or 20mph/1000 rpm)

That guy wasted his money. In order for vtec to engage, a lot of variables have to be in check, not just rpm.

Throttle position, oil pressure, rpm, engine temperature etc.

Unless you have a vafc installed, in that one case, it would engage dependant only on rpm because the controller fools the ecu into thinking all the other variables are met.

Different strokes for different folks. I would be annoyed as hell, cruising 80+ mph at like 4500 rpm. I already get irritated at 4000 rpm at 80 mph. I guess I am not too hardcore to sacrifice some comfort for improved acceleration, that is just me of course. If not, I would have gotten an ITR.

its only approx 500RPM difference from the GSR to the SI. secondly, first gear is identical. u wont see these huge changes these guys r yackin about. its not that much difference. the ITR final drive WILL NOT just drop into the SI tranny. different sized diffs. LS and SI share the same diff. GSR and ITR share the same diff. ITR and GSR has a bigger differential. ive had both, id take the GSR just as fast as the SI tranny.

GSR is faster than a Si for a reason right? and not just becasue it has 10 more horses. so stick with the GSR tranny, it is best for FI use also well best overall tranny to use

I believe the torque is a major factor too to the GSR

Wouldn't a GSR with a Si tranny be faster than a GSR with stock tranny? i mean that would make more sense to me since it can rev faster...But just because it can rev faster doesn't mean it actually is faster. Since its shorter gearing, you're traveling less distance at the same rpm as you would with the GSR tranny.

The crappy thing about the GSR tranny is that you fall out of the secondaries on the 1-2 shift. But even though the gears are a little more spaced out, the GSR still hauls *** in 3rd gear baby. Just look at the prelude. That **** revs so slow but they still beat us stock vs stock.

I say GSR tranny with a lightened flywheel (if you're worried about revving speed).
