Default Head porters look (56K iffy), think I was mislead here.

Took my P72 head to be p&p'd, specifically to seat the ITR valves I just bought, and asked for a mild port and polish, was told between 3-400 .. ended up the guy asked for 225, and did nearly nothing! Problem is they are good guys, I think maybe he misunderstood me, or was in a rush (left for vacation today) .. opinions on my options here. Pics: (before/afters)

So, as you can see the ports are untouched, not happy! I was willing to pay more to have it done correctly, but being that he is away I'm pretty sure he rushed to get it done. Opinions?

You got mild porting of the bowls, what do you expect for $225.00 I hope you plan on getting a valve job, your seats look awfully pitted.

As I said, I expected to pay more (we had discussed price and work I wanted done before hand) .. I put the before/after pics up so you can see what still needs to be done here.

that is about the same amount of porting you get with a oem ITR head. And all you probably need for your setup IMHO

With heavy porting... that could work... but this is a mild job.

Minimal porting was done to the intake, but the guy did thin out the splitters and he cleaned up the casting imperfections. It appears he did most of the work on the bowl area (area right before the valve seat) which is very important to the performance of the head.

I can't tell that there was any work done to the exhaust port itself, but the bowl also appears to be polished....along with a valve job, you should be fine with that. If it makes you feel better....$225 for that work is nothing to bitch about.

considering they didn't touch the guide bosses or the short turns when they did the exh port you where better off w/the 225 job and a valve job,and not paying for more porting work.jmo though.

Default Some one is eating a nice meal for not much work, homie.

This is a head we did in house (this is NOT an advertisement!) This is what a head should look like with some WICKED port work!

Shot from the chambers

Down the runners. Shrouds properly cut.

I did this a couple weeks ago for my H assembly. Doing an all motor build. This head was optimized for a set of Crower Stage III bumpsticks and new springs/retainers. Power band/VTEC engagement is recommended @ 6k rpms and above. This head will flow over 330CFM.

I paid a total $300 ($CAD so say $250 USD) for the short side/bowl work and valve job, given my setup it's good enough, we'll see what kind of numbers I make at the dyno, then I can decide whether to go all out on the portwork. As far as the exhaust ports, I did that myself, nothing crazy .. just removed imperfections and polished it as fine as I could, and I'm staying away from the intake ports as I am too much of a porting n00b .

are you possitive that you will benefit from this...? i think i disagree.. have you spent time on a flow bench? for his setup he will never max out the flow on his head...

and as you can see the porting that is being advertised by the other guy above.. that person who ported that head seems to know a little.. the divider is not sharp like a blade.. its this and still rounded..

i have a basic 500 dollar port on my itr head and i reached a point where the head would not flow anymore.. we topped out at 278hp.. i would need more porting to make anymore power..

I think so too Don, I just wish he'd done more as I was willing to pay more! hehe. Ah well, seems as though the work done is all I need anyway. Is there anything basic DIY I can do from here to the ports that I haven't done? Or leave well enough be.

looks like its need to be redone , but maybe the guy wasn't thinking on extacly what you wanted. 225 $$ looks like the work he did sound about right.

bowl work is where you will notice some decent power since the head is already large enough for an all motor set up, yes minor improvements will make a bit more power but for 225 you can complain, the bowl area and short radius turns look okay

i would be happy for 225
