Element/ CR-V 4wd improvements
Has anybody ever looked into improvements to the rear end on those? I've toyed with the idea of stronger clutch packs at the sacrifice of the rear tires. But anything to make it stronger for beach driving would be worth it for me. Mabye we can develop some ideas?
They havn't changed the rear diff in those since day one. It's the same rear diff with a big clutch pack.
The pilot rear end is much tougher but the gearing is waay off from the CR-V.
The clutch packs are in there right now to act as an LSD. They pretty much freewheel until the front wheels slip then it mechanically locks down. But I like to trail ride and the CR-V can't take very serious trails.
What I want to do is install electronically activated clutch packs like the pilot has.

Actually, the CR-V's RT4WD system was changed for, I believe, the 2005 model year. According to Honda: "Additionally, a cam-driven real-time AWD mechanism replaced the previous pump-type system on all models, improving acceleration and hill climbing performance."
I'm not sure if the Element got this system too.

EDIT: you were right. Whoops guess I should do a little more research on my product. Now i'm gonna look into making the swap.....
