Default Turbo or supercharged

I just picked up a 88 hatch with a b18A1, and am now looking to get more power out of it. I am kinda new to the tuner scene and was told a few options of which two were turboing it or gettin a supercharger...could someone lend me some knowledge on the main differences between the two, I'll try and do some research, but any input would be appreciated.

The b18 is'nt worth dog crap unless you slap a turbo on it.

A supercharger is a good power supply in the lower rpms. Good for the jump and through about 3/4 of the rpm span. A turbo is good for top end power, and personal opinion generates more power. It deff. has more potential to do so anyway. The downfall is that you have to wait for it to spoll up, But is awsome in the upper rpm range. It's 6 of 1, and 1/2 dozen of the other. The ? you have to ask yourself is, do I want power early or can I wait a little bit.

I'm not going to give any advice on which way to go, but I'd check out the condition of the motor first before deciding on something since you just got it.

lets see here....

the main differences between the two...

Turbocharger - runs off of the exhaust gases from the combustion chamber of the engine, has a little bit of lag (meaning it takes a little bit to get boost going from the turbo) it has that lag because i-4's kind of lack on exhaust flow, and there isnt enough exhaust flow until like 4k+ rpms to spool the turbo. but turbo's produce a lot more power then superchargers.

Supercharger - runs off of pulleys and is hooked up to the intake manifold. it has no lag, so instant boost, but it is not as strong as a turbocharger.

price wise, if you knew what you were doing, you could build a custom turbo kit yourself for like $1,000 or less. superchargers run for like 2k because you cant really built a kit, its all 1 unit.

but ya, once again use the search feature which is highlighted in red in the upper right part of the website.

but if your actually looking for like highway power for the boost of the turbo, i wouldnt even touch a turbo for a honda IMO, mainly because hondas have no torque or let alone, they lack on power for the highway and freeway. just remember one thing. Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races.

go with a turbo, I was in the same boat about 6 months ago and I chose a turbo kit, just B/C IMHO they are way easier to tune and lot more easier to get power out of, plus cheaper just stay away from E-bay crap trust me... search on here and you find what your lookin for Welcome to HT!!!!!!!

yeah the engine only has 40k on it so its not old at all, I think I'm gonna go with a turbo, cause I want that high end power, are they difficult to install?

Not really if you are some what mechanicly inclined the hardest part is tunning... Which Might be a problem If you are still OBD 0 check out http://WWW.PGMFI.ORG or http://WWW.TURBOEDIT.ORG these guys know there **** I am runnin a piggy back with a VAFC, not the best choice but it works great on low boost below 9 pounds... Also Pick up some DSM blue top injectors they flow nice and will be perfect for a forced induction application also they use the stock B series clips... Look into a WALBRO 255 lph fuel pump some say you need it some say you dont, I personly run 8 psi and dont have one As far as taping your pan for return make sure and mock the turbo up first so that it has nice flow back to the pan and is not that long of a run those are probaly the hardest parts of the install Bolting the turbo and charge pipes on are fun good luck
