Look in the CRX-Civic FAQ thread towards the top of the page you should find info there.

wouldnt it say like b16a1 or b16a2 on the metal square piece thing to the left of the valve cover, kinda right next to the block on the left, right above the transmission?

If its jdm it will say "B16a" and thats all..And it looks like your b16 has 2 dashpots on the intake manifold so Im thinking its from the xsi integra ..Also there is a date stamped on the motor right above the exhaust ports..

yeah, it should... I don't think there's much of a difference in parts. The thing to watch out for is OBD stuff. I believe the b16a1 is obd0 and the b16a2 is obd1.

No..B16a2 is obd2 and from northamerican 99-00 si/sir..B16a sir2 is obd1 from 92-95 jdm cars..B16a1 is obd0 from edm civics and crx vtec models..B16a sir1 is from the 90-91 civic/crx sir japan..Then theres also the B16a from the 90-93 integra xsi in japan,,90-91 being obd0,,92-93 being obd1..Theres a bunch,,Im not going to list them all..

But from the 2 dashpots on theintake manifold and the dohc vtec letters it looks to be a b16a from the 90-91 integra xsi,,

on a side note sir 1 and sir 2 have nothing to do with the generation, it's a trim level.

I'm sure I could search but while we're on the topic... what would removing the second "dashpot" on the intake manifold do? That does look quite cluttered.

If the valve cover is origional, then it's a late b16a, early b16a2

Judging by the dizzy... the verdict is first gen B16a possibly with a XSI Intake manifold on it but doubt it. And FYI the 1st gen B16 said DOHC in big letters and VTEC in small and also said HONDA MOTOR CO. on the bottom The 2nd gen said DOHC in small letters and VTEC in big and only said HONDA on the bottom. look at the first circle from the left above the Exhaust ports that will tell you the year good luck

Yeah you dont need the dashpot(s)..I removed them on my car as well as the charcoal canister..Then simply plugged all the open nipples they left..Only vacuum lines on mine are brake booster, map sensor, and fuel pressure regulator,,Its pretty cleaned up ..By the way ,car runs perfect..I dont even know what the dashpots do..

When It comes to replacement parts a b16 is a b16, and I know the gen 2 b16a has better cams, and oiling also 170hp. The only exception is the electronics. For that you use the 90-91 b18a. Im not sure about the temperature sensor I think their all the same. I key thing to look at the motor is an xsi if the tranny the motor comes with is a j1, or s1. The civic and crx should have a y1, lsd and non-lsd.

Look again,,His has 2 dashpots..So that means its a b16a from an integra..But its all the same motor either way..But to answer the original question,I always use thermostat for the 90 integra,,others may work also..
