How much power does the air con rob from an S2k engine?
I live in the UK and have a very rare need for Air Con (with our shitty weather we just put the window down)! On this note is it worth me removing the AC belt? or AC unit?
I just want to know if any extra power can be freed up
Thanks

The air conditioning has a clutch that disengages in Vtec. Some of the racers have removed the heater/AC to save about 75 lbs. If you decide to, don't spend a fortune on the Mugen drive belt. Just order this belt for removing AC: 4060450 (6PK1145) 45"

Good info. I bet the Mugen belt is $11324078347884

I'm running A/C-less also. The whole system, condenser and all, is about 50 lbs. There's very little difference in the feel of the motor itself, but it gave me some room in the engine bay to work, and changed the corner weighing a bit. I paid $14 for a Bando belt. I have the part # if you need it.
Hello Mr Sideways.
That does leave alot of room. Hmm. do you have a picture of your engine bay ProjektSlideways ? I would love to see it with all of the A/C lines out of the way.

you already free up a lot of room just by taking out the stock intake. regardless of whether or not you got AC, it shouldnt matter much.. thats what the top down is for.

Yea. The only time I missed A/C in my Si is when it would rain. Foggy windows sucked badly.

Don't pull out the AC system. If anything, run the shorter belt to bypass the AC compressor. You'll regret pulling the entire AC system when you're returning your car back to stock so you can enjoy daily driving it in hot weather instead of having it parked in your garage for over a year.

Hot weather and England dont really go in the same sentance
Is it only Mugen that make the belt? If anyone can post up some options of where I can get the shorter belt that would be appreciated.
Also would the A/C unit mess up if its not used for a long period of time. Is there any maintenance needed to stop it messing up?
Cheers

Keep in mind the AC comes in handy to unfog your windshield in rainy conditions instead of rolling down the windows. I'm sure England gets sunshine most of the time
The compressor will be fine if you run a shorter belt over time.
